Why would Hertl cost more to acquire than Karlsson?

San Jose saved net $20M in cash/cap and only got late a 1st round pick for Karlsson, the reigning Norris trophy winner.

In this trade, San Jose saves over $55M in cash, gives up a worse player, and somehow gets a 1st, Podkolzin, and Klimovich? Please.

A fair Hertl trade would be something like Boeser + Garland for Hertl straight up.

Whats with these Hertl trades on here all of a sudden?

I like the player but he'll be 30 in November, why would any team want to pay a lot to take that off of SJ's hands?

Don't see why Van would need to retain on Beauvillier here, Ruuta wouldn't be a bad pickup for the Nucks meh defense but would imagine the Sharks might prefer to keep him, they do need to ice a team though I guess they are getting Myers for a year so he can fill a spot.

Interesting idea, something different on here anyway.. lol

Fans may not like it but ownership is gonna jump at the chance to save $30M. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

Plattner isn't a cheap owner. He believes in hockey deals that make sense. This is the worst trade proposal I've seen.

A late 1st and a bunch of crap for Erik Karlsson is a hockey deal that makes sense?

Karlsson requesting a trade and his large cap hit are the two major things you're not thinking about.
Bad to use that trade as comparison.

Yes, with only 1.5 mil retention. Why are you equating EK65 and Hertl? It's a completely different situation. He's well worth his contract, especially with the rising cap.

You were right that the offer is an overpay for Hertl but your counteroffer is just as bad in the opposite direction. You're undervaluing Hertl way too much. He probably would fetch something a bit less than what Meier got, with futures being more the focus
