Downgrading the defence ahead of the playoffs is an odd strategy. B

Hmmm,

I think the Peeke offer is really reasonable and might work for both sides. Its a trade I really like for both.

Just dont know if you get that value for Brodie....WPG is probably looking at a slight rebuild/growth, giving up a 3rd and 5th for a 5mil expiring UFA probably isn;t what they want to do. (Yes, they could deal him with retention at the TDL, but hed have to stay healthy and play well on a worse team for them to get a better return than they've given up). Not to mention hes one of the best 2 way dmen the team has.

Unfortunately, probably not off base alot on timmins value, while a low in the round 4th seems about right, (THREE drafts away not so right), hed be on his 4th nhl team in his short career and his value is effected by his inability to play defense.

As far as the lines, its probably about right and well done, but I'd prefer a young guy with some offensive ability like holmberg or steeves on the 4th line than lafferty. And make lafferty the 13th forward. If Robertson cant deliver in 3rd line time than you're safer with one of those 2. McMann is probably the 14th/15th forward, called up from minors when needed (hes 26, and with 1 pt in 11 or so NHL games, I just don;t see it).

Peeke's probably too high in this line-up, preferably you'd have him second pair and either bump up McCabe or Lili and hope he has a solid year. Also don't know if Rifai is NHL-ready, probably more of a call-up option in case of temporary injuries. I think you'd need a better 7th D.

If the Leafs can handle the cap of Timmins and Brodie for the season they certainly aren't downgrading their defence at TDL by making those trades.
By the way, ain't no way Brodie has Jets on his trade list.

From a CBJ fan, you're absolutely right, you definitely don't want Peeke on your top pair. That trade works for us, and he's probably most successful on the 3RD pair in a shutdown role. Peeke could work on the 2nd pair, he does have a decent shot and holds the offensive blue line well enough.
