PTOs and AHL deals

Created by: futurebobmckenzie
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2023
Published: Aug. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Roster is players fighting for a spot.

Pysyk: PTO, Coming off an achilles injury that made him miss the entire year last year, Pysyk is a simple defenseman who can be the perfect bottom pairing guy. Sign him to a PTO and see how the achilles healed.

Foote: 2 way deal. Sign Foote to a 2 way deal and see if he can develop into a bottom pairing guy. He’s still young, 24, and give him some reps with the big club before sending him down to develop.

Bear: PTO. not sure if he’d sign a PTO but it’s getting pretty late and his options are slim. Not sure if this is the best idea since him and POJ have similar playing styles, and they would presumably be partners.

Aston-Reece: PTO. We all know who this is. great defensive minded bottom 6 forward who would be great for the PK

Shaw: Two way deal. Let him have reps on the first 3 lines and see if we can spark his offensive game. if we can’t put him in the AHL to develop. *we could also deploy Johnsson the same way*

Heinen: PTO. See if we can get back that 3rd line gritty scoring forward

Parise: PTO. Yes he’s old, but he’s still got it. would be a nice addition for some leadership and he could still pot some on any line.

White: PTO: Could be a useful bottom 6 winger to fill a hole left by Granlund.

I think Comtois would be a good PTO candidate.

I'm hoping Foote is the big depth Dman Treliving is talking about adding to the Leafs 4th pair.

A lot of playoff teams are probably gonna be offering the same to the same players probably. So it’s up to where they want to sign

For Hockey Canada, I know the investigation is done, it's just to see when it's made public and who is guilty and not. As for Foote, I have no idea TBH

Just tossed out a bunch of players honestly, Pysyk would be great for the third pair, if his achilles healed properly. I like the idea of developing Foote and ZAR + White would be great for us. I’m hesitant about Heinen, though i’m not against it. Maybe bring him back on a 1 year deal

I'd consider Josh Bailey. Not ideal at all, but two seasons ago had like 40 points in 70 games. Him at 775k might not be the worst idea for depth. Also like the Puljujuvari idea.
