Dont see the Devils doing this. Devils have 1.9m in caps plz explain how 3m fits into that? also with Holtz on the roster the devils have 1.8m so again dont see it happening. If anything the devils need size and grit.

With retention, I could definitely see this happening

Problem for the Sharks is they only have one retention slot left to use for Duclair, Hoffman, Barabanov, and Labanc.

No one wants Labanc, and no one will give a 2nd for him. He has negative value, and even retaining half his cap hit, he only becomes neutral value. We will have to let him walk or retain half and hope some team offers a 7th for him. The rest of the values look good though. Maybe a little low depending on their seasons and if we retain. I could see Barabanov with a 50-60 point season at half retention getting a late 1st, same with Duclair.

That's true, I think with a good season either Barabanov or Duclair would be the best targets for that last slot.

Is Barabanov really worth more than Duclair? He's undersized, not physical at all and has zero playoff experience.

You have to look at his contract vs point production and 50+ point pace over 82 games for 2.5 mil is a hell of deal, next you have to look at his line mates production with and without him and Hertl had a much better year in 21/22 with him and not as good in 22/23 while he played both season with Meier (for the majority of the season)
While Couture has a really solid bounce back season with Barbi last year vs 21/22 with a similar wing opposite him. Bottom line he provides good offensive numbers and makes his line better. He doesn’t drive play persay but he does a lot of the board work and puck play to open his line up for good chances.

Personally I feel sharks should not move him for anything under a 1st. He is also a really good locker room guy.

To me if both have season like they should they are bargain deals as is. That last retention spot should go to a guy like Hoffman or Labanc to squeeze a little more value IMO

TDL and the fact he has an expiring contract will make a lot of GM go nearsighted and if he has a good season (15+ goals 35+ points at the TDL) I think 50% retained he could garner a 3rd maybe.
I like Labanc personally and know he is capable of more but he has a reputation of winding up in coaches doghouse.

Let’s just hope the sharks play well and lose a lot of games 5-4 6-5 and we can flip the offensive rentals for top dollar at the TDL and build some legit draft capital! Then ride the depleted roster to the 1st OA pick and Grab Celebrini.
Then start working on rebuilding the D and Goalie situation.

Cap room gains value during the season. If you start with $1.9, at mid season that is worth $3.8 essentially because half of the player's salary is paid already.

I wouldn't fret too much about retention save for Hoffman. Barabanov and Duclair are cheap enough that they shouldn't require it; if spots become an issue then they could easily get someone else to retain for a mid-round pick (going rate is what, a fifth/2 million?). Teams might require retention on Hoffmann, and at that point I'm not sure it becomes worth it.

I just don't think Duclair has that in him, and Barabanov doesn't seem to have a great reputation around the league. It's funny because if Duclair really did have a 50-60 point season then he might be one of the most targeted rentals at the deadline...

I was going to say the same, I think Duclair and Hoffman could bring higher picks, if their goal scoring is decent. I think Duclair for sure, he was awesome 2 years ago, I don't really consider last year because he was hurt.
