Seems like a lot to me. I thought Nylander would go for a package similar to what Debrincat got when he went from Chicago to Ottawa last year, but a beefed up version of that. So a high reasonably high 1st (or equivalent prospect), plus a 2nd and 3rd.

It’s no secret Leafs ACGM peeps have been trading some people to Avs for them to get under cap. I’ve seen mostly Jarnkrok, Lafferty, and recently Timmins. (Let’s cut the crap on the Nylander/Toews stuff please lol). But I’m so down for Jarnkrok. Avs have a glaring hole at 3RW, and he’d solidify a good line with Wood and Colton. The domino effect of pushing LOC back to his better suited 4th line and Olofsson out of the lineup too. So yes. You got a deal from this Avs fan.

I don't why the Flames would give up so much for a one year rental. In effect two firsts and Mango.
There is no such thing as an extension as Cup contending teams NEVER allow players to negotiate with other teams, one full season away from an expiring contract .,

Other Avs fans wouldn’t be too kind about this proposal 😂

No thank you from this Flames fan. The only way for the Flames to keep Nylander is to overpay. That doesn't guarantee Lindholm re-signing, or him having chemistry with Lindholm and Huberdeau etc.

Meanwhile, Coronato, and the future first are guaranteed cost controlled assets. A year of Nylander is not worth it to a team with a largely uncertain future.

Calgary would be open to a hockey trade for Nylander but nothing involving their high end ELC's. They aren't in a position to gamble the future on Nylander being the solution. Especially at the cost of loosing a valuable 2nd line winger in Mangiapane too

We’re getting an analytically sound, cheapish Swiss Army knife. I have no complaints. Plus we aren’t exactly great at drafting outside the third round although that could be taking a turn for the better. Need to keep our window open as long as possible and this trade helps it.

Calgary isn't trading that 1st. It's protection for the 1st they gave up to dump Monahan's contract. As good as Nylander is, I just don't see a scenario where Calgary wins that trade. It just creates new problems. I could see Mangiapane as part of the deal, but they need to restock a decimated prospect pipeline to manage the cap issues BT created in his last year.

The problem isn’t Jarnkrok, who I’m down for. The problem is that we’re also tight to the cap. Spending $2.1M obviously isn’t game changing, but that pretty much guarantees that we go into the season with Jack Johnson as an every night defenseman. I’d rather add two cheap depth options and evaluate a player like Jarnkrok in the event Drouin is bad still.

Also, I feel like Toronto’s cap situation will make the return less than a 3rd.

So overall: I’m mostly down, but would have some hesitation that the Avs are making a move that limits their ability to address other roster holes.

decimated pipeline? You guys have as high as 4 elc's on the roster next year?

Yeah, it’s not Jarnkrok. I’d add him for a fourth, but he takes up all the cap. Would prefer a cheap depth D and one depth forward to push the Meyers, Foudys, etc for 4th line spots for the $2M we have left. Or hold on and see what Drouin and Ryjo actually look like if a bigger move is needed. Hope not.

Coronato, Pelletier, Ruzicka, and Dueher are NHL ready, with the latter two being bottom 6 projections. Wolf and Coronato are our best prospects. Beyond that we only have one Center who could make the jump (Zary) and one defenseman (Poirier).
