Tatar signing in Colorado
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Pretty good lineup IF Drouin shows up to play, otherwise that LW is looking pretty average</div></div>
There is some hope Landy comes back for playoffs, but if not Kovalenko is coming over after his KHL year and he prefers RW. So without any corresponding moves, that probly puts Nichushkin on LW, Tatar up a line and Kovalenko will slot in at 3RW. But IF Landy is back, then that changes things too.

Did I miss something about Makar’s contract cause he has 4 years left currently and would be 3 given the season of your ACGM.

I’m working on an Avs playoff lineup for this year and a separate one for next year. I’m forgetting which one I did, but one of them I have Avs getting Boyd. I think he’d fit the system extremely well and I would be comfortable coughing up a 2nd and a decent prospect for him.

Good point as those two are very solid prospects, but where G has some value is that he can play both sides. Being a puck moving D, you kind of hope that they can do both. I personally like him better there, he walks and maneuvers the blue line very well. Would not encourage putting Jack Johnson or Kurtis MacDermid on their off hands tho, as they struggle with their “good” side

Avs getting some better depth than MacD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>Unless you were referring to the forwards, Benoit isn't really better, he's more of a 2nd pair AHL D.</div></div>
Bro. You should see some of the bums we’ve had to play cuz of the Avs and their never ending curse/jinx/hex whatever you wanna call it of yearly injuries lol. A portion of us Avs fans want JJ out of our lives. He actually did play decent stretches of hockey in his 2nd part back with us, but there’s just so many better options out there that I would be okay giving almost anyway a chance. Our F depth is where I’m way more concerned. There’s questions up front. But the Avs will have 1 of these 5 out on the ice at all times in Makar, Toews, Byram, Girard, and Manson. Pretty damn good top 5, but that #6… Woof. But like I said our F depth is fairly weak and the F’s we do have will have questions to start the year until their performance is long enough along to be judged.
And it’s no secret the Avs are bargain bin shopping. As is half the league with the cap crunch. And Mason Shaw is someone I definitely have my eye on. He would fit perfectly on the 4th line. I’d prefer a C, and I just don’t know if he’s a true C or LW. Genuinely don’t know I can’t find something saying what his primary position is. Cuz if it’s 4C, I prefer him WAY more than I do Ben Meyers.

Time is definitely running out for him. Reason why I picked him is cuz Avs players seem to have some pull on who they want brought in. Mack obvi has and Mikko have an interview a while backing talking about Puljujarvi. And Avs also love their reclamations/projects. Usually sign one per offseason. So that was my logic behind the Puljujarvi signing. Not exactly major headlines I know

I’d be very down for either of them. Or both preferably. Cuz I’ve vocalized I don’t want Meyers AND Olofsson penciled in the lineup to start. I guess now they might be serious about giving young guys a shot. Maybe JLF can make the team. But yea of the value guys out there ZAR, Heinen, and probably Motte are ones I’d like them to look at. But neither of them play C. Hopefully Pavel makes the team and gets Meyers out of there.

Oh I’m aware of his playoff production. Or lack thereof lol. But he’s one of the few people who fill a need. They need one more guy who can produce and possibly fill in the top 6 if Drouin doesn’t work or our inevitable injuries. As we all know the free agent market is so thin right now. If it’s not done now or soon via free agency I’d like to think CMac will add prior to deadline. I just don’t like waiting too long so we aren’t playing our top guys 25 minutes a night in November.

We’re getting an analytically sound, cheapish Swiss Army knife. I have no complaints. Plus we aren’t exactly great at drafting outside the third round although that could be taking a turn for the better. Need to keep our window open as long as possible and this trade helps it.

It’s no secret Leafs ACGM peeps have been trading some people to Avs for them to get under cap. I’ve seen mostly Jarnkrok, Lafferty, and recently Timmins. (Let’s cut the crap on the Nylander/Toews stuff please lol). But I’m so down for Jarnkrok. Avs have a glaring hole at 3RW, and he’d solidify a good line with Wood and Colton. The domino effect of pushing LOC back to his better suited 4th line and Olofsson out of the lineup too. So yes. You got a deal from this Avs fan.

Projected Opening Night Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>M96N29</b></div><div>I'd certainly like to see the addition of another forward. Not sold on Meyers, though it seems clear he'll get a legitimate shot to stick on the 4th line. While the chance will be legitimate, I don't think Bednar will give him a long leash. He either shows production early or we move on. I think we go into camp assuming Foudy/Oloffson/someone else earns the 4th wing position that's open. We keep some powder dry and make a forward move if 1) there is panic about Drouin or Ryjo's ability to play top lines or 2) it's clear Meyers/Foudy/Oloffson/other just aren't going to step up.
Beyond that, as much as I don't like it, I think we have a rotational 3rd pairing d where JJ/Hunt/Dermy share time alongside Byram or Girard.</div></div>
Yea as of now Jack Johnson seems to be the #6 and MacDermid the #7 with Hunt probably being the Captain and #1 for the Eagles. I personally want all them pushed down a spot via adding another F, but if Makar, Toews, G, Byram, and Manson are healthy and playing ahead of him, I can live with JJ playing 12 mins a night. The F depth needs more help IMO. Kovalenko will help later, but still I don’t want Olofsson AND Meyers playing at the same time.

For you appearing to not be an Avs fan, this is pretty darn good lol. I have something very similar projected. Only thing I changed (and some of Avs fan base agrees with me) is swapping Nichushkin and Rantanen. We’re trying to give Johansen the tools to rebound and succeed, and if he has Mikko next to him, that should help tremendously. And Nate has shown he can carry a line with subpar linemates (Calvert, Nieto, Andrighetto, etc.).
We’re also hoping we use the little cap space we have to push Ben Meyers to scratch territory by adding another C. We’re also hoping Jean-Luc Foudy makes the team over Olofsson who won’t provide muh. But all in all, well done!!

Vlasic is probably the closest LHD prospect to being a lock, and Kaiser is probably more likely to see NHL ice time next season than Korchinski. Also, that isn't much of a "dump". Looks like positive value, maybe neutral value at worst, to me. Regardless, CHI isn't taking on an undersized LHD at $5M for 4 years, when we have this plethora of LHD coming up through the ranks over the next 2 to 3 years.
Edit: I don't personally think Girard is a "dump", but if he is, this wouldn't even come close to covering a contract of that size.</div></div>
I agree with your part about him moving being a “cap dump” sounding negative. Cause he’s a good player. Amongst Avs fans he’s the easiest target to pick to move cuz they need flexibility and they need it now like JG Wentworth. Chicago also might seriously need help reaching the floor. They’ll have some ELCs and bridge type deals for guys like Kurashev and CJones. That’s why I picked them out as the trade partner. Can use a LHD. Have space. Girard is probly their top LHD until Korchinski shows he’s ready.

Ah yes I recall vividly the 10 million conversations as I was a part of them that’s why I did it again you see. And that’s an interesting strategy for a team who’s finished bottom of the league for the last few years to say hey we’re good on assets. As I said if Columbus keeps him for mentoring/leadership purposes or he loves the city that’s cool. But to say they reject the trade cuz they don’t need assets is something else

You’re right. We should stand pat where we are. Worked really well for us in the first round. We also don’t need $5M in space to fill other holes in our roster. And yes we should do everything in our power to keep a backup goalie who’s injured almost as much as he plays.

Ambrosio is of no interest to them. Stauber is a fantastic surprise that I think has a real shot at making it as a pro. The two 3rd round picks can be used to supplement other trades to move up in the draft, which would be more in line with the stage CHI currently is in of their rebuild.</div></div>
Chicago has one LHD signed for next year and it’s Jarred Tinordi. So if anyone is compatible for a Girard dump they’re one of them. With Arizona and Anaheim being possibilities as well. The only person who might be considered a lock is Korchinski, and even he might need AHL time. So at worst you get a #3 D signed at decent value for good value. Think he and Murphy would make a solid pairing.

I was never aware and never saw anything about him staying put. Haven’t seen that from the insiders. Also with the way Kim Jong Bettman keeps giving the NHL 1 measly million increase every year, the spots become limited where to dump people. Francouz is an oft injured $2M backup. Can find more durable ones cheaper. All of this is to save money.

This trade makes the Avs D so much worse tho. They need him. Think the whole world knows the Avs need a 2C and now a wing with the Landy news. So while I’m not arguing Guentzel doesn’t have good value, teams will need to pony tf up if they want him. Cuz I believe Avs will move heaven and Earth to extend him. Sam Girard’s days are numbered.
