Im not gonna debate you on that because I really liked him as a prospect so I wouldnt give up if i was a canucks fan either

But, is it worth holding onto him if he wont get a real shot to play? If you move Garland or Boeser I could see him having a spot in the lineup but right now I just cant see it. Hope im wrong tho

Garland is pretty much on his way out. Just doesn’t fit well in our lineup unfortunately even though he is a very good player

I am failing to see what Columbus gets out of this. No, wasting a retention slot for Gudbranson for three more years isn’t it.

    What's the incentive for Columbus?

They're getting out of 3 mil a year on Gru (not even the full contract), but it's coming at the cost of both of their good depth RD options which would then leave them with a void there.

Severson and Jiricek are both easily better... And Peeke and Boqvist have no future with the team imo. Youve got way better options coming up, one of Boqvist or Peeke need to go before the season starts because Jiricek is NHL top 4 ready and you dont want to bury one of them on the third pair where they lose all value. You get mostly out of a horrific deal and you clear a good amount of cap. Thats what it is.

Who whole reason Peeke and Boqvist's future with the team is up in the air right now is because of the crowed D room. You have both of them plus Grubrandson with his albatross of a contract for 1-2 spots (depending if Jiricek starts in the A or not). If you move all 3 out that Jiricek is locked in (which I don't necessarily is a bad thing, but I don't think a few months in Cleveland would hurt) and then a 3rd spot for who? Bean, who definitely doesn't have a future with the team? Then next year and possibly the year after you have a spot to fill as you wait for Ceulemans or someone else.

If you're paying one of Boqvist/Peeke to move out Gru, the other has to stay, otherwise you end up with the opposite issue of what you have now and you basically get nothing in return. The team doesn't need cap space right now, so moving out that money isn't an issue.

Unless he get a buyout Gudbranson is going to stay in Columbus for the forseeable future, especially with the NMC. He was brought in not so much for his play but as an enforcer/player coach for a young locker room. Teams really value that spite and I think people on sites like these forget about how important locker room presence is and only focus on the on ice ones. My guess he will play 24-25 season then buy out year 4 as by that time Jiricek should be good and ready with the RHD1 with Cuelmans potentially coming up as a RHD2/3. Then Gudbranson most likely then joins Dorsett as part of the player development team as I am sure Rick Nash is going to become GM and Jarmo moving to operations...you can't tell me that he's low key being groomed right now with all the media appearances he made this summer as he's usually really reserved but that's my conspiracy theory.

Just curious. He hasn't meshed well with Pet or Mil at C?

Playstyle doesn't mesh well because he needs to be the primary playdriver on his line
