Or, keep Pesce and Morrow and move Skjei in a package for Hertl.

You guys already have a ridiculous retention on Burns. Enough is enough.

Couture's contract is due 2027, not 2031

Yeah i seriously doubt that San Jose is on Brett Pesce's 15 team trade list.

And giving up Scott Morrow for an aging Logan Couture is pure asinine.

Exactly this trade is awful for the Hurricanes

San Jose isn’t plugging up their 3rd retention slot for 4 more years and they aren’t retaining $16 mil either

There seems to be a excessive lack of awareness about teams retention slots on this site. Not a single team in the NHL have used up all their retention slots, and only two have used up two spots. They keep the third spot open for a reason. And that reason isn't to use it on a contract with 4 years left on it. With that said Couture wants to play out his contract in SJ.

you guys all need to learn to read, there's another version of this trade in description which happens in 2024 as cap raise eliminates the necessity of retaining on Couture

Sorry, missed that. It would have to be the 2nd offer, there’s no way they’d retain 4 mill.

I'm hoping the Sharks aren't in the business of propping up other teams.
Who knows though.

Sometimes I feel like Grier is really setting this team up in 3 years, but then I don't see any dmen in the pipes that can move the puck on a top line.

People need to watch Shakir. He's so overshadowed because he was in Russia and there's not much game tape on him, but this dude is so good. I mean he came over to North America to a terrible Cuda team and put up 10 points in 12 games. He's a great skater for how big he is. We also have Havelid on that right side who's a puck-moving D-man. Excited to see him in a healthy season and likely at the WJC.

And there's Thrun who's a very solid 2-way d-man. He didn't look out of place at all at the NHL level

I just see Shakir as a #3 guy long term.
Havelid looks amazing but is 2 feet tall. I just can't recall seeing that many puck moving dmen in the league that are that small. I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Maybe a #4.
We need a #1 puck moving dman. Likely grabbing one in the next draft I'm guessing. I think we're good at forward imo.

Thrun is legit and I can see him growing to be a #2 guy alongside a #1 RHD.

Idk I'm very high on Shakir. I'm excited for training camp to see some of these guys mixed in with full time NHLers.

Also CapFriendly I don't think updates prospect's physical data until they actually are NHLers. I noticed this yesterday when they had Gushchin an inch shorter and about 15-20 pounds less than his Elite Prospects. Havelid is the same, he's listed an inch shorter and around 10 lbs less here.

I really like Pohlkhamp and Cagnoni though. They're not super big either but they must be tanks. Pohlkamp is 5'10, 205 lbs. Cagnoni is 5'9" 182 lbs. There's supposed to be some really good d-men in the mid-First area of this next draft so they should be getting someone good if they get a Center in the top 3 and then maybe move up a few spots from the Pitt/NJ 1st

This is why I appreciate this site. I am too negative to be positive about the future right now. Glad someone is. tears of joy
