Idk but Hronek isn’t what they needed. They need a Pesce or Carlo or Zub or Marino

Olli Maatta made Hronek look very good last season in Detroit. It'll be interesting to see if Hronek can keep up his good play in Vancouver.

Yzerman sold high on Hronek. I don't believe he was looking to trade him. But Vancouver gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.

But Yzerman also knew Seider is going to get the bag down the road and likely didn't want to overpay Hronek next summer.

Allvin wants to compete now, while Pettersson and Hughes are in their primes. Hronek is more of a guarantee than Sandin-Pellika or anyone else available at 17 is, which prompted a trade.

I didn't like the trade for the Canucks. Gee the could have signed a short term UFA for his 4.4m and kept the pick

But please, why make a post with Petry going to non playoff western Canadian team. His M NTC comes into play for so many teams.

They went after Marino. Hronek is a very good piece that will drive the 2nd pairing for years to come. Also Carlo and Zub aren’t exactly on the table

In a re-tool perspective it makes a ton of sense. Turned an expiring UFA Horvat into a 25 year old top 4 RHD with team control

Hronek had far superior numbers than Maata. He was literally playing below replacement level whereas Hronek was playing near top of the league

I remember Hronek being bad the season before Maatta came to Detroit. Like real bad. Then he gets paired with Maatta and he's his old self again.

Maatta gets **** on everyone he goes but he's another example of why analytics never have and never will tell the whole story about a player. Not even close actually.

That’s correlation, not causation. Hronek had a breakout year. It happens. Quinn Hughes just had his best year yet playing with Luke Schenn. It’s not because Luke Schenn is great, it’s because Hughes got better

It's you justifying your favourite team trading a 1st round pick for Hronek. Nothing more and nothing less.

If Hronek weren't playing for Vancouver you'd likely be saying how overrated he is.

It's the same as Sharks fans ripping Erik Karlsson now that he's no longer a Shark. And Pens fans saying how great he is that he's now a Penguin.

Whereas a year ago those same fans would've been saying how overpaid and overrated and injury prone Karlsson is. No team bias though. 🤔

It’s an extra 1st round they got for trading an expiring UFA. Turned an expiring UFA into a 25 year old top 4 RHD (a very big position of need). Makes a ton of sense why they did it. I don’t know why people are surprised

Hronek is gonna be good on the 2nd pair but they still need a solid partner for Hughes with size. Unless they wanted to try Soucy-Hughes

Tom Willander. GM Patrik Allvin said so himself. He’s 1-2 years out. Ian Cole is our temporary stop gap until he arrives

Doesn't make sense. You pretty much turned Horvat into
Beauvillier Hronek and Raty. Why trade the 17# + a Second rounder for Hronek. Provorov got the Flyers #22 and Fiala got the wild #19 last year I believe. Really bad move value wise. Could just of kept the pick and draft a really good player in a stacked draft. Didn't even trade those picks for someone in the same tier as Provorov or Fiala. And they added a 2ND rounder too. Watch Pettersson leave next year.

Who’s playing on the top pairing then?

This season probably Ian Cole until Tom Willander is ready. He may very well only need 1 year in college before he’s ready. He is already very mature and his defensive game is NHL ready. Going to see if he elevated his offense in college this season

Hronek is a much better player than Provorov, is cheaper, and is right handed. Fiala is also a winger which is a far less valuable position. Axel Sandin Pelikka was drafted using the 17th pick. The Wings can only hope he becomes a Filip Hronek.

Why would this make Pettersson leave? I’d imagine he’d leave even sooner if we didn’t trade for Hronek because at least this shows they want to compete sooner rather than later. What kind of logic are you using?

Ain't no way you just said Hronek is a far better player than Provorov. And why do you think Pettersson signed a short term deal? Probably to see the state of the Canucks and if he wants to stay or no.

Zero chance that Vancouver is on Petry's 16 team trade list, He wants the East Coast only.

This trade just doesn’t happen straight up, Petry is an American living near the east coast who wants to be closer to family. No way he would go to the farthest west Canadian team in the league, Vancouver is 100% on his M-NTC.
