I think we are 100% okay with Schmid playing 30 games or so as back-up to Vanecek this year.

We are not okay with our only other healthy, professional goalie (Kallgren) ever seeing a single minute for NJD. So we do need to add a depth option to play in Utica.

How can it be a bad idea? DeSmith would be a solid backup behind Vanecek. His stats are more than okay and at 1.8M he’s not expensive. Could come at 900k too. And playing 23 yr old Schmid in the minors make a ton of sense. Use your brain.

It's not a bad idea, outlier here is against most sane ideas. Fitz is probably waiting to see if one of the big names can be had on a G flip pkg and if not will add a CD type based on all that has been said by NHL stories, Devs beat writers, Fitz himself. I expect to see a move similar to this. Now I can speculate if his priors are helped against him (never knew btw, thx for the news pretzel)

TBC- I am ok with Schmid playing on the big team. Also ok with an add, ok with Desmith or similar. Even a decent deal for Helle would be ok depending on the return.

I think if we got Hellebuyck for a song, sure, no need to box ourselves in in a world if we can get away with three goalies, but these DeSmith trades and anything like that make zero sense.
