Preds pass but Dallas takes that and runs if they can find the cap space for it.

Rebuilding teams dont spend young assets on aging players. Brodie may be an upgrade but his timeline doesnt fit with Nashville at all.

Jarnkrok is just more 3rd liner filler for Nashville that they dont need. He could go to a team looking for depth to compete for the cup (Nashville isnt that team). Dont think youll get much though considering there are still UFAs out there with similar production rates and theyre free.

Not sure on Dallas' defense situation but that seems like an ok deal for them.

A Cup contending team (Leafs) suddenly becoming sellers?

The value is right for the Nashville deal but the fit is wrong for the Preds; Dallas would surely jump at that offer; but why is Toronto making either trade?? One season of Nylander is probably better than one season of Kane, and losing Nylander and Brodie in return for cap space and depth players doesn't seem like an upgrade to me.

Explain ROR and Schenn if you are rebuilding.

We bought out duchene, traded joey at 50%, traded granlund, ekholm, and nino. Vet presence and lockerroom leadership. Without ROR the center core was a bunch of players with less than 2 full seasons under their belts (glass, novak, parssinen) and a bottom 6 defensive center colton sissons. Schenn for grit and should be a great mentor for Lauzon. Nyquist so we dont have inexperienced centers being flanked on both sides by inexperienced wingers. He wanted to bring in players that foster the right lockerroom mentality and they were also UFAs so it cost zero assets.

Trotz is on record saying he expects the team to take a step back over the next season or two and become competitive again after that.

Why on God's green earth would a team with Cup aspirations start the season with 24 skaters, 3 goalies and 4 million in cap space? Not to mention, you've made the team worse. Dallas would take that deal before you even finished spitting it out
