Detroit has excess forwards and dmen as it is, they're really not the team to send those guys to.

Goodrow, more specifically his contract, doesn't ' align with Detroit's plans.

Jones would just take a roster spot and playing minutes in Grand Rapids away from one of Detroit's young defensemen. Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, McIssac. These 4 guys will have the left D side taken care of in GR.

Goodrow doesn't need the boot. I would literally rather keep him than Panarin. And Z Jones will either become a full-time roster member or can be used as a valuable trade chip at some point. Can't waste him on just dumping Goodrow. And throwing in a 2nd round pick? No. Just no. A 7th in exchange for all of that is awful.

So this really doesn't help either team.

Won't be able to get rid of Goodrow now - that ship has already sailed. They should have just bought him out and used the 3.85 mil they would have added in cap space to perhaps sign players better than Belzile, Riley Nash, Bonino, Brouilliard, etc.
