Description
The basis of this trade is two elite assets at positions of need for an elite center prospect. Anaheim already has Zegras and Carlsson, and Gaucher is a better future fit for 3C than McTavish is.

Basically every one. Pronman's top prospects from this morning:

https://theathletic.com/4805966/2023/08/28/nhl-players-prospects-under-23-connor-bedard/

Nikishin is 23 and Zellweger and Mintyukov come in at 59 and 61. The trade is dumb on the whole but that's not because Nikishin isn't worth trading for.

Nikishin looks like a great prospect but he’s also 2 years older than both Zellweger and Mintyukov. Let’s see how the ANA duo look this year vs men.
CHAR liked this.

Nikishin is likely better than either Mintyukov or Zellweger.

Says who? Carolina fans who I’m sure are watching a ton of KHL and Junior hockey? I haven’t seen Nikishin, but I’m just one quick search he’s Athletic’s 36th best prospect, while Minty and Zell are 26 and 28. Is that always right? Hell no. But why move one of your best young players for a 3rd LD prospect. This is silly and you know it

To which I have two words: Mikko Lehtonen.

Hahahahahaha WHAT??????

Bruh.

lmao? I can start listing KHL players that never pan out if you really want, and clearly if he does commit to coming over he may be better but thats a big if

This is BRUTAL for the Canes.

I fail to see any world this is slightly bad for CAR tears of joy

McTavish is the best piece in this deal and LaCombe and the Ducks 24 second is very clearly more valuable than Nikishin

it is BRUTAL for ANA, they dont even consider this

1 - Heh. Is that supposed to be some sort of point? After you do the irrelevant KHL flops, then do all the volumes of irrelevant mid 2nd rounders who don't pan out. This is attempted cherry picking, sir. One thing has little if anything to do with the other.

2 - tears of joy

Lehtonen was much older than Nikishin when he started to excel in the KHL. What makes Nikishin so exciting is that he became a dominant KHL player at the ages of 20-21.
