Someone might give up a first for Liljegren, but it wont be Vancouver. The only way i see them trading a first is if its for a guy like Pesce

That's a big price for a pending UFA winger Columbus doesn't need and can't afford going forward. They've already got a pair of 9+ million AAV wingers. There isn't room for another. Pass.

Of course it's going to be a lot for a premium player, in the prime of their career, that would be one of your top players. I would assume any trade people post with Nylander is based on the assumption they will be extending him as well.

"Doesn't need" lol c'mon now. Columbus finished tied for 2nd last in the league and finished with the 3rd fewest goals for. Nylander would have been CBJs top goal scorer, 2nd in assists, top PP contributor and top overall point producer.

You're totally right. Columbus is still exactly the same team that finished last season, absolutely no extenuating circumstances or changes or any nuances. Yep. You got it, champ.

But deals don't happen in a vacuum. Cap management matters, especially for small market teams that struggle to retain talent. Surely you're familiar with all the Columbus memes. A team with three wingers each making that much money isn't going anywhere. Hell, Toronto isn't going anywhere with three players making even more, and two of theirs are more valuable centers. Since Laine and Gaudreau are already on the team and not going anywhere, there just is not room for Nylander. He's a great player who should absolutely be making at least 8.5 million, but it'll have to be from a different team. Columbus has to be extremely careful of its cap in the next few years with a lot of young RFA's needing new deals.

1st line minutes, 1st line power play, get to play with Gaudreau and/or Laine, put up massive points, all of that sounds better than playing on the 2nd line and 2nd power play unit on the Leafs.

??? Who is the centre he plays with in Columbus. 2nd line minutes in Toronto? I don't see it. Matthews at centre....Nylander is one of two wingers. Marner often plays the point.
But the Leafs are worse with year for a Cup run with Roslovic and Peeke over Nylander and Liljegren, admitting like the 23 man roster.

The Leafs cup window has stretched to five years with the Matthews extension and Treliving should build a team with that in mind. It would be a mistake to let Nylander walk in free agency, and Liljegren doesn't seem to be the type of defenceman that Treliving likes so I don't think he has a future with the Leafs.

What kinda Dmen does Trevling like?.....Tanev, Hanifan, Weager, Zaradov, Andersson who finished out of the playoffs. last season. Trevling has shown he is bad in contract negotiations as Dubas was when he gave 30 year old a 10.5m, 8 year deal.
Why is it is mistake to let Nylander walk? He gives a Leafs best chance to win now.....unless he can be traded for immediate help this season.
Why are so many fascinated with Nylander's upcoming UFA status? Leafs have six others, and there are over hundred in the league. Don't make it sound like the Leafs and Nylander's situation is so unique/
