As I have said in another post, Nylander blows up the Blues payroll structure if he extends. That alone is why the Blues pass.
They are set up long term for a very balanced team - which has been their M.O. for 5-6 years now. Highly doubt they are suddenly going to deviate from that.

Holy crap. We've found the smartest Leafs fan of all time, everybody. All hail King Swinny!!
I believe STL values Parayko more than many mock trade predictions show, such as this one. I believe this is due to Parayko having a slot on team Canada’s depth chart, which is formulated by a group of Canadian gms. Doug Armstrong isn’t letting go of 7 years of term defenseman who is on that depth chart for funsies. Doug Armstrong has said as much this off-season, and Treliving is a co-gm with Doug Armstrong for team Canada. Last TDL Doug stated he was bullish on his assets when the primary trade rumor was around Parayko and Edmonton.
I could see a nylander for Parayko hockey trade in a vacuum, but not 2023. As mentioned above, it completely explodes STL’s cap structure. Stl does not have rhd depth to send a roster skater away without receiving one back. Stl has a full top 6, and wouldn’t take another top 6 winger without removing one from the roster.
I think if Nylander were to be traded to STL then either Jordan Kyrou or pavel Buchnevich is involved in either a 1 for 1 or close to it, or somebody like Kapanen/Vrana is involved along with other assets. That’s really the only way I see that it would make sense for each teams depth charts and cap structure, but none of those options are without fault. Each of those options above present their own roadblocks.
