Jets have d log jam too many role players not enough young players developing. 3rd could become something not likely. Doubt this would work both tor players have m-nmt. This is more free up lineup space.

So how does trading a top 4 defenseman for an average bottom pairing defenseman and a low end role playing forward help?

It doesn't clear the defense logjam, it just replaces a good defenseman with a meh one and adds a role playing forward that you say the Jets have to many of.

If the Jets are retaining on Dillon they should get more than a mid to late 3rd.

THough your assessment of Lafferty is spot on, you're way off on Liljgren. He'll be a top 4 dman this year, with a development to a #2 on most teams over the next 2 years. He took big strides last year, and is still only 24. Dillon is a 32 year old journeyman, who doesn't add much offense, and had a much worse +/- that Liljgren, playing in front of a better goalie and playing with a better d partner.

I'll have to take your word for it. So far I haven't been impressed with Liljegren.

Why? Dillon is a pending UFA. So is Lafferty, but forget him. Liljegren and a 3rd is a decent return for somebody you're going to lose for nothing. I agree it might not make sense if Winnipeg is in the playoffs, but the title of this trade is "24 Deadline", so I assume that means the thread starter doesn't expect it to happen until Winnipeg has a pretty good idea if they're going to make it or not. I'm not sure I'd give up Liljegren for a rental though, but I guess it depends on how good Toronto feels about their D at that point.

You guys could be right. I haven't been impressed by Liljegren much yet, but I don't see him play often. If he's as good as you guys are saying he is, then it makes sense, but then if he's as good as you guys say he is, Toronto isn't trading him.
