I really like it for Vancouver. They get a very good backup and get rid of Pearsons cap hit. It will open up a spot for one of Van young prospects up front.

I assumed DeSmith was worth a 3rd on his own. Fact you shed Pearsons cap is huge. Great deal.

DeSmith wasn't worth a 3rd but I think that MTL could've done better noting they are taking Pearson, so this is a good deal for VAN

Hughes was also trying to do right by the player as well. I don't hate it for Montreal either but don't love it for them.

Montreal has silly forward and defensive depth. Too much haha. We will see what they do.

It looks pretty bad right now, but in a way, its a good safety net as we have a lot of NHL caliber forwards now

injuries are bound to happen so I don't see an issue with having excessive depth

Why you got a good backup. I know his numbers last year not the best but this is someone who can play over 20 games and give Demko rest. You also dumped a guy for only a 3rd

Demko/Desmith could be a scary duo

Canucks put themselves into a position where they were negotiating from a point of weakness. they did HAVE to shed cap, but it is clearly better for them to do so. as a result, they lose a 3rd round pick for a 1 year rental back up goalie.

they did the same thing last year dumping dickinson for a 2nd an taking back stillman.

i dont like to see the team putting themselves in a bad situation and spending draft capital to get out of it.

Yeah that’s the name of the game though they didn’t realize it was a bad contract when they signed it so you gotta pay the piper and you almost got out of it for free desmith is almost worth a 3rd some would agrue he is worth a 3rd

I really didn't like that Stillman trade. I thought that was a very poor asset management trade by Vancouver.

This one is different. Desmith for a 3rd is already very reasonable. So sheding the cap also, makes this a good move for Van in my mind.

This trade is a huge win for VAN. We shed a meh winger who I truly thought nobody would touch due to hand injuries which gives us space to bring in Podkolzin / Hoglander and still run a 23 man roster. It also gives us a better backup option than trying to run Martin who, unfortunately, got hung out to dry last year and performed poorly.

Big win that we did both for just a 3rd. Sure, spending hurts, but I'm sure VAN will get a better pick back at the TDL if they move Beau or get a 3rd back from COL for Desmith.
