Not saying either side should do it, but more of asking the question if Zegras wants out or something like that... Maybe?

I think Nylander would have to be a part of the package though

Again, it's Zegras going for a cup for a year to keep the Leafs under the cap, with a 8/8 extension in place for the following 8 years

As for Kane, he signs the contract on November 19th 2023, making him 35 years old and eligible for a 4.75 mill in performance bonuses, making his salary 5 mill by cap hit $775000

Klingberg gets PP1 time so no worries

He's not getting traded and Zegras is worth way more than Nylander. Not to mention Nylander doesn't remotely fit their competition window

It is way more. Nylander is a year from UFA and Zegras is 5 years at minimum. Add in the difference in positional value and it's not even remotely close

Isn't Nylander switching to Centre? So what positional value? And then factor in the 40 goals... And isn't ANA is spot that Nylande could sign with... Potentially

Ducks wouldn’t be selling their franchise guy for a rental. Maybe a package of goodies for Nylander if they want to extend him, but really no reason to do for 2023-24. If they want head start on extension, or 8 years, just throw a mid round pick to Leafs after season.

Ducks risk nothing. They start without Nylander, they end without Nylander.

It’s the Leafs who risk losing him to UFA.

Nylander is fine defensively, not great - Zegras is actually horrendous. There's no way they'd ever do this deal. He's going to get bridge deal from Anaheim, and Nylander could take a massive step this year if he works on his defensive game. Zegras has a long way to go to even be in the same league as Willy.

While a lot of what you are saying is true, Zegras is only 22, so there's tremendous potential there and he has 5-years to catch/surpass Willy. So, at the end of the day this trade isn't happening because Anaheim says no, since he's definitely the more valuable player. Even if Nylander is successfully transitioned into a C and offered at 8.5 years, to Anaheim, definitely still say no. If Anaheim was offering Zegras for Nylander, Toronto might say no, but there's a good chance that they do say yes.

If I’m Toronto I don’t consider this.. it’s not about age, contract, etc.. it’s about contending. Nylander is way above Zegras today. Nylander can be resigned tomorrow for 10M and the leafs are still going to be contenders. This is a no brainer. You want to be the new TB, keep nylander.

No, he's not good defensively, but he's also not bad either. Pucks basically go in the net the same when he is or isn't on the ice.

BC ANA has a chance to? By trading for him, you are making the chance of signing higher and you can get the 8th year

Ok so why doesn’t TOR do that
Or any other team? Oh that’s right, cap space and the fact that he can still just walk to FA, yea sure you can get the 8th year but that doesn’t stop him. Not to mention TOR will want a lot for him in a trade.

Again it makes no sense for teams to take a big gamble rn when they can get him for free in a year
