I like you are a GM but as Steven Stamkos himself has said on multiple occasions including on Bolts TV "The Block Party" Stamkos" I can't say what will happen when my contract expires however,I can guarantee I will be a bolt until then."

He's a bolt for life in all likelihood. And if he comes over to Canada, it's probably to play for Toronto; maybe Montreal

I guess you didn't listen to his interview about wanting to sign an extension and figure it out before the training camp, it was what he expected, and the Bolts having had NOT ANY communication with him at all, as well as Bolts management making it very clear they were not going to negotiate any extensions mid season or pre season..I know Calgary is a pipe dream, but if you seriously believe it is a solid lock he is a Bolt for life in this day and age and the power players have, IMO that a little Homer mentality, no disrespect intended. Loyalty is a thing of the past past and new age enablement and money driving EVERY decision...more to come. And I agree Toronto is much more likely, and yes he probably works it out. But man would it be fun to have him Center Huberduea 😆

Thanks for the insightful reply. Any intelligent data or ideas on why or what would it take?

With the expected cap space Boston is going to have next offseason, Backlund is a one year rental with the risk that Sweeney gets attached and doesn’t leverage his space to acquire a center or keep DeBrusk.

Frederic played very well in his role last year and is young/locked into a reasonable contract. This deal as structured forces Boston to go with a 21 man roster as opposed to 22, which is a pain.

I’ve thought of a Forbort/Frederic for Backlund at one point with enough retention to make him about a $4.5m player (just to keep the roster at 22)

What part of I'm ready to sign whenever makes you think he wants to go? If he does go it won't be to a Canadian team. Big reason he (according to both Stamkos and Yzerman) walked into Yzerman's office the day after Meeting with Toronto and told Yzerman give me what you can, buyout proof with a NMC I'll sign it was. He loves to be able to take his then girlfriend now wife out to restaurants or malls etc and not be bombarded with autograph seeker selfie takers or jack asses wanting to tell him how bad he sucks because he's on a 4-5 game pointless streak. That hasn't changed in fact with his kids he's made it clear lifestyle is extremely important.

Not horrible from a value perspective however Lindholm and Hanifin are both free agents are Tampa still has cap issues so they might no be able to bring them back

Pretty sure i’ve told you repeatedly- no interest in Backlund. 🤷🏻‍♂️

They are a middle of the pack team without him, middle of the pack team with him. A mid 30s middle 6 center does not change that. Does absolutely nothing for them short or long term.

Elias, Noah, Coronato, Zary. These are players of interest.

Stamkos and DeHaan are also pending UFA's. Why is Calgary giving up a top prospect + 1st + 2nd + 3rd? This doesn't make sense from their perspective.
