It just doesnt make sense

Created by: MontysPython
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 22, 2023
Published: Sep. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So far, in this Cap Friendly Frenzy, a price has been hashed out.

Zegras
for
A center replacement
An ~A defensive prospect.

For the Habs rumors, that's Suzuki+Reinbacher(I've seen +)

What I don't understand is if money is the problem, how the hello does adding $8M fix it if you're getting a "worse" player too?

If you're willing to pay $8M for a center replacement, pay Trevor.

So, maybe the problem isn't money. Maybe it's the type of #1C they're looking for. A more defensive leader guy.

AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS RUMORS THAT HAVE YET TO BE CONFIRMED, AND BY RENAUD LAVOIE TO BAT.

Point is, we're all excited for hockey. This trade isn't happening, and if it does I'm prepared to be a cf clown. There's much we're missing in this puzzle. Too much to piece it together, let's wait as Zegras is on his contract.

It's not clear what Zegras ask is or where the offer leak came from but I assume it's Zegras agent. It reminds me of the arbitration offer that the Ducks made Terry and then signed him to term soon after. If Zegras is asking for a 5 year deal to get to UFA or a very high AAV on a bridge, then it makes sense Verbeek would be coming back pretty aggressive.

You're right to be wary when people speculate on cost. That said, if they could pull of a Drouin for Sergachev type trade then I think that would make sense for the Ducks. Easier said than done of course...

It's reported through more reputable sources that they've agreed to a three year bridge, leaving him still an RFA at the ens. Still somewhat speculative but believable. Then it's a matter of price. Z probably wants to be the highest paid on the team, since he had the best stats last season, but that sets him up for a YUGE 3rd contract, which would put Anaheim in a Toronto situation unable to afford to fill out the rest of the roster.

Some 3 yr bridge deals I can think of are Pettersson and Dahlin but a couple years back. So, maybe that's $7M?

According to what I hear the Ducks offer him 1-2 for 3y they have a internal salary cap and no one is allowed to make more than Tory Terry.

It would do nothing of the sort. Toronto has 3 players making about 11 million each. You have 1 making 7 so far

Then why the f they signed Gudas and Killorn, it does not make sense.

Just go Sabres path, put youth on the ice, sign vet to short deal to lead by example, add talent through draft, see what you got in 2 years.

From what I hear is that the Ducks are about a year or two behind the Sabers and the Zee move seems a little odd to be doing that.

They are, they just drafted their 1C and 2C in recent drafts, those guys need time. I don't see why they are lowballing Zegras on bridge deal by that much, it does not matter to them.

It sounds like they are either trying to get a deal or they only want to pay him for the past and not what he might be
