I am eternally baffled by people posting ACGMs that trade out MacDermid when his contract is completely bury-able. Especially in the case that they're paying to move him.

It’s not that bury-able… maybe they throw him on waivers, and hope he gets picked up… Moving him could free up at least $200K. It also allows them to carry only one extra players and accrue cap space by using waiver ineligible players to fill in for injuries.

It’s hard to justify a nearly $1M virtually unplayable player with the cap situation the Avs have.

What is a Buried Contract?
Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:
2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
2022-23: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
2023-24: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
2024-25: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
2025-26: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000

Provided a player makes less than 1.15 million, you can send them to the AHL by placing them on waivers and have their full contract off the NHL teams cap. MacDermis makes less than 1.15 million, so if he is assigned to the Eagles, his full cap hit comes off the Avs roster.

The only worry is that drouin, tartar, kiviranta, olofsson are pretty one dimensional guys.

The additions of ross and wood are more feisty guys doesn;t make up for it.

"Tartar" has good defensive metrics; Olofsson has a very small sample size to look at so it's hard to say what else he brings outside of decent defensive play; Drouin isn't expected to do much more than provide some playmaking; Kiviranta is a PKer. The Avs are still a skill and speed team but they brought in Colton and Wood to bring a little more physicality while also being able to skate.

I do think Tufte should get a chance to play 4C with his massive body and ability to shield the puck; Meyers has no anticipation or puck skill and just chases the puck around plus he is waiver eligible for 10 more games so why not give Tufte a short leash to seize the job and if it doesn't work out, call Meyers up?

COL isn’t trading LOC for a back up goal tender that’s ridiculous.

LOC isn't going anywhere, he's a mainstay at 4RW. Perfect 4th winger for the Avs style and cheap too.

Paying to move MacDermid makes no sense either. He has positive value and would definitely get claimed on waivers which is why the Avs always keep him up.
