Well it's less than what Parise and Suter are making. But agree with you. Four years for a 33 year old, third line winger when the contract starts.

Yup, they have about 12M Now but still have many holes to fill. He’s gone. They also gave Zuccarello 4.1M

Short answer is GMBG is just continuing on with what he's been doing since he took over as GM. Overpay in money/term old players.

Bill saw Chicago dish out 4 and 4 to two gritty bottoms sixers and confused it as 4 x 4.
Good for Moose. Going to need some prospects to develop into quality players now.

Guaranteed he’s not gone. He’ll have an extension within a week. Book it.

My guess is that BG’s entire plan is dependent on if Rossi is able to translate his game to the NHL. Since Zucc is up after 2 years, and Foligno could be moved after 2 years, if the Wild eat half of Foligno’s deal, that opens up about 20mil in cap space (including the buyout penalty reduction, 22mil without retention) for the 2026 season. That isn’t even counting however much the cap ceiling rises in that timespan.
On paper, it is both a smart and quite stupid move. On the one hand, he is keeping the team together, and hoping for players to take that next step forward. On the other hand, he is hurting their chances of being competitive as well as making it near impossible to sign any top talents from the market to potentially improve the team. But being exceptionally reliant on Rossi developing into a top line C, not a wise move. And frankly, I’m of the opinion that Rossi won’t develop into what the Wild so desperately need him to be.

It’s either this, or the Wild are taking a very long look at the 2025-26 UFA class, and licking their chops over Draisaitl headlining that UFA class. I mean, not going to lie here, I kind of want to see how much damage a line composed of Kaprizov-Draisaitl-Boldy could do.

Would cost them a fortune to sign Draisaitl and to retain Kaprizov after that. If Gustavsson is a top goalie, he'll cost a fortune ad well, so they will start to run out of money pretty quickly just between those three. He's definitely banking on young guys like Rossi to become NHL regulars that he can lock up for cheap.
