If a Dman can't make the top 7 for a non playoff team, maybe he isn't NHL material. Doesn't matter where he was drafted, it's what he is NOW.
Maybe the Ducks claim him as you suggest. Can he be a RHD top 6 or the 7th Dman?
He's much better than Hamonic (but not as "tough")
I think this goal against sums up Hamonic well :

Thomson should have been our 7th D-man, well competing with JBD for games
Sanderson - Chychrun
Chabot - Zub
Brannstrom - JBD/Thomson
And Kleven in the AHL getting ready for the NHL.
Sure Thomson was the main culprit on the Jets 1st goal last night but which Sens D-men usually don't do these gaffs? Brannstrom, Sanderson and Zub are the only ones who usually don't

A player like jusso valamaki comes to mind got claimed last year when flames didn't think he was ready and look at him now. Thompson can definitely be a #6 or #7 on a team and at his age he'll get claimed
Habs got Byron, Montembeault and Kovacevic on waivers. Sometimes it's just bad pro scouting and bad projecting from their previous teams

I don’t think the sens would be too concerned about him being taken as they have an other prospects who have surpassed him. JBD, Hamara, Kleven, Donovan.
It's not because you just won 100$ that you have to throw the 100$ you already had in the garbage bin.
Also really doubt Hamara ill be a NHL player, at least not as of now

If Thomson hits waivers, Hawks probably put in a claim. He'd get 3rd pair minutes over Zaitsev for sure. I'd think multiple teams put in a claim on him.
I'd say he gets claimed 99% chances. Can't see him passing the Hawks/Sharks.
