Twitter Discourse - Hypothetical trade

Created by: ItalChech
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 7, 2023
Published: Oct. 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
NYR
  1. Xhekaj, Arber
Additional Details:
There are people arguing on Habs twitter right now who WOULDNT make this trade 1 for 1. if our D prospects develop, Xhekaj is going to be a rotating 7th D at best. ( i want to add, yes i know its more likely not all of these prospects will develop to their potential. this is "Good to Best" case scenario )

Guhle Barron
Hutson Reinbacher
Harris Mailloux

Xhekaj Norlinder
Engstrom Struble
Konyushkov

Laf upside and potential to go with Suzuki or Dach could work wonders compared to him being snubbed from the Rangers Top 6. Is/could Laff be a bust? Sure. but picks this decade have not been too kind in general. I'd take the chance on a former 1OA vs a bottom 6D at best

Laf/Zuk/Cole
Slaf/Dach/2024 pick?
RHP/Newhook/Roy
Ylonen/Beck/Farrell

then the likes of Mesar/Heineman

Lol its a purely hypothetical. in no way do the NYR make this trade in 1000 years. just amazed with the twitter discourse that there are habs fans out there, that if this trade came up, wouldnt do it

Rangers don’t really need defensemen as their top 5 is pretty set

For as disappointing as he may be, he still put up 35-40 points as a 21 year old. If you have a similar young middle six forward who can provide that production for the next 2 years at less than $2.4 mil, I’m all ears, but if that’s not what is coming back then a trade is just not interesting at all. We could try and package him in a deal for a legit top 6 player, but we don’t have the cap space to broker such a deal. If one of the 2 objectives above aren’t reached then I’d rather keep him as a reliable scoring middle six guy.

If any MTL turns down this proposal they would be absolutely insane. Can’t get more homer than that.

A former first overall for a goon that probably doesn’t make 31 rosters.

Wow

What are you talking about?! Xhekaj isn't a "goon" he doesn't go around playing dirty looking to take out the oppositions best players. He stands up for his teammates and plays a really physical game, every team in the NHL wants that type of player. Now we all know this trade is heavily in Montreals favour and would instantly be made if proposed to Hughes but to say Xhekaj is a goon is complete and utter nonsense

“Not a goon”

A goon is a dirty player who goes running around looking to injure other player then picking fights with the other teams best players (Avery, Kreider, Hasek all dirty players or "goons") players who play physical and stand up for teammates are not "goons" they have integrity and gamesmanship. Just cause your team lacks these types of players doesn't mean that those players are goons, it just means you are jealous and can't express it in a healthy way so you resort to insults

First, Sean Avery comment makes the rest of this just hard to take seriously.

Second, goons, like Xhekaj, are useless to competitive teams as their inclusion makes the team weaker. We had Mason Geertsen for a bit. Didn’t help us much.

How was Avery not a goon he was literally worse than ratboy Marchand and even got kicked out of the league for it. You are just jealous and I am done arguing with a two year old who resorts to insulting good players

I read it as Avery, Kreider and Hasek were “players who play physical and stand up for teammates are not "goons" they have integrity and gamesmanship”. I do not think Kreider or Hasek belong in same bucket as Avery.

And not a ounce of jealousy here.

Hasek skated down the ice and dropped to take out opposing goalies knees before trying to fight them, he did this on multiple occasions. One of the most memorable being when he skated down to take on Roy who proceeded to jump over him before turning around and giving Hasek the beating of his life. Kreider ran Pacioretty into the corner of the glass and took out Price's knee basically ending both of their careers cause neither have been the same since. Those are goons

The Kreider on Price hit was rather routine. And Price won a Hart trophy the following season. So I don’t really know what you’re talking about…unless the definition of a goon is anyone who hurts a member of the Canadiens.
