Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 11, 2023
Published: Oct. 11, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
During the season, the leafs look fine, 1st in the Atlantic, but everyone can see that most of their goals are from the outside and so, Treliving makes some moves to acquire playoff, style players...

Please note: The situation above me is an excuse to trade 2 of the 4 core 4 players... Make up any excuse you want where the Leafs want a different taste and trade Marner and Nylander

And yes Leaf fans, the Leafs need to be meaner

IDK what Dube's value is... And assuming Cal is unwilling to part with guys like Coranato or Pelletier and they don't fit playoff style hockey... Dube has dropped the gloves with Trouba and Zadorov is big...

Nylander comes with 9.5x8 extension

Timmins can fetch something, McMann is there and Marner is Marner...

Rangers don’t need two $11m forwards

    Trouba > Timmins
    Chytil < Marner
    Othmann > McMann

Fair... But I thought Rangers fans wanted off the Trouba contract... So getting a quality piece in return in the middle of their prime would have been very attractive

I mean they do, but he’s better than Schneider. I personally don’t think Schneider is ready for the 2RD role until Trouba comes off the books

Not to mention, I highly doubt they could afford to extend Marner when his contract is up

That Rangers trade is horrible for the Leafs....Any Marner trade to the Rangers has to involve Miller.

While it's a possibility Kane signs in Toronto, just because he is rehabbing outside of Toronto doesn't make it a sure fire bet as it is close to his Chicago home as well as family in NY. Carolina and Florida are likely also in the cards.

Why isn't he rehabbing at the mansion he bought in the Chicago suburbs, because he's been gutting the interior for the last year and the place is still in shambles having just driven by it a week ago. If his home was ready, I'm willing to bet he'd be in Chicago rehabbing versus Toronto in the comfort of his own home.

My point is, while interesting he's in Toronto, I wouldn't read into it to the degree that he's a lock for the Leafs.

even ignoring the values of the trade, this is a much worse team out the back end. And the defence isnt even improved all that much. Trouba has been much for years and Zadorov is a bottom pairing guy.

How is this getting off the Trouba contract when you have them retaining $3m/year?

    Rangers pass.

And zero chance of Trouba ever waiving for any Canadian team when he said he wanted out.

This team is much better IMO with better assets if it's the playoffs that they are aiming for, not RS success

no, it really isnt. This team is just as bad in the playoffs as it is in the regular season, which is worse. Slower defenders who arnt even good at defense do not make the team better just because you 've seen their hit highlights. Zadorov is just bad and slow and Trouba is basically a power play specialist at this point.
The leafs issue in the playoffs has literally been secondary scoring for when the big 4 are shut down or hurt and now you've gutted their primary scoring for futures and no meaningful improvement anywhere else.

They may want off 8M Trouba, but they aren’t retaining 3M. 1M would be possible. Trouba is easily worth 6-7M. So they really only wish they could cut 1-2M off the deal. But we all know you have to overpay sometimes like bread or Tavares.

Having guys that punish you and can be leader while being able to run a 23 man roster with depth is very useful... Especially if you have 2 1sts and a 2nd as draft capital for TDL

Except they dont do that in any meaningful way, especially not in any way that makes up for the massive loss in scoring and no actual defensive improvement.
If you are worse at every part of the actual puck part of the game it doesnt matter if you throw more hits, especially since it just means you're gonna be on the pk more and oh wait, you traded your best pk guy for a defender who is one of the leagues worst on the pk.
Not to mention, both of these defenders bleed scoring chances from right in front of their own net, so clearly no one on other teams is concerned about being 'punished'

The funniest part of this is that TO generates and scores more goals from the slot than almost any other team. Either you are just here to troll, or you really just have no idea how hockey is played.

Yeah, well, cap space is extremely precious these days and there is no way the Rangers retain $9 million over 3 seasons to watch Trouba play for someone else.
