I agree, I would expect more for that 5th round pick, especially since the Hawks will be solving Ottawa’s cap problem for them.

Not a bad asset for a 5th round pick. He's still young and could develop into a top 4 given more games.
If it's not Chicago I'm sure someone would fork out a 5th round pick for that asset

Hawks should make this deal. Branny is an upgrade to Tinordi and Zaitsev on their 3rd pair if nothing else.

I agree he's an upgrade over our 5/6th guys today* and a 5th isn't much to acquire him. This trade would help Ottawa more than Chicago, *Brannstrom could lose his spot next year to one of our own prospects.

If we are making a deal with Ottawa lets go after Pinto. What would that take?

If Dorion does this, it would add to the long list of upsetting moves he made. This is a very poor return.

Not expecting outsiders to know much about Brannstrom though. Brannstrom has dominated his role last season, his 23 y/o season. He has also paced for 24 pts per 82 games since 2020-21 (he was 21 y/o), almost all at ES and from the 3rd pairing. He has this kind of advanced metrics because of a very good hockey IQ, great passing and excellent quickness. That makes him so much better at defending than a guy like Hamonic for example, despite "size and toughness" (Hamonic who by the way didn't get destroyed last season since he played with Sanderson)

Not only that, moving Brannstrom is not SMART since he is a much much better than anything after him (Hamonic, Guenette, JBD, Thomson, Matinpalo, Larsson...). One injury in the Top-4 and Sens are screwed if Brannstrom is gone.

The NO BRAINER move is to simply trade Kubalik

No, you put Brannstrom in a position to succeed and without the pressure of making the playoffs he would thrive even more. You'd be selling him for much more than a 5th at the draft

If Dorion is dumb enough to do that, just abuse him (like many have done before)
