Canucks improved roster design

Created by: SGB88
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 13, 2023
Published: Oct. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Canucks improve their roster design and start tolling cap space for deadline acquisition.
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Pageau, Jean-Gabriel
Additional Details:
I think this is a good fit for both teams and has been suggest by NYI fans (I think)? minor picks on either side to balance as is fair or required.
NYI
  1. Garland, Conor
Additional Details:
Honestly this trade makes a lot of sense.

Yes, it does not clear cap space per se, but it moves cap space from a place were we shouldn't be spending it (the wing) to where we should be spending more (center). I 5 million dollar 3rd line center is normal, but if Garland is on a third line a 5 million dollar winger isn't ideal.
2.
VAN
  1. Fabbro, Dante
Additional Details:
Canucks get a serviceable RD on a reasonable contract who is local and still a RFA.
NSH
  1. Beauvillier, Anthony ($1,650,000 retained)
  2. Rathbone, Jack
Additional Details:
Nashville could use the extra winger for this year. (i know there's a log jam coming up, but it's not here yet). Whether you like it or not Nashville is clearly trying to compete this year and will make moves to make themselves better.
3.
VAN
  1. Stecher, Troy
Additional Details:
Arizona saves on real cap dollars and gets a piece that is very flippable at the deadline with double retention.
ARI
  1. Myers, Tyler ($3,000,000 retained)
  2. Poolman, Tucker
  3. 2024 4th round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Canucks get cap space and a local boy who can move the puck. They don't need a big RD because they've got Soucy/Cole to give size to the bottom pair.

Trading Fabbro for a UFA to be in a position of organizational depth would be an extremely short sighted move on Nashville’s part. Maybe they trade you Carrier or Barrie and it is more of a UFA to be for UFA to be swap.
AEcho liked this.

Stecher got a 7th at his highest. Last year he was traded for a bag of pucks.

Myers at 1.5 million get's you probably a 3rd maybe a 4th. I wouldn't pay that for him, but have you met NHL gm's? He's 6' 8" played 20 minutes a night forever in a top 4 role. People will want that for the playoff 100%. History tells us these things. Why would Arizona care about retaining? It costs them like 80k to retain Myers at the TDL, which is what Arizona really cares about.
