Reasonable? he hasn't had more than 10 points in a season in his career, how is that reasonable?
He's 23 and has proven he can play 20+ min a night and complement more offensive guys like Dahlin. It's still early, but I think it's going to be a good contract at the tail end. And it's fine now since Buffalo has tons of cap space.
I can see why some don't like the deal. It's a bit risky. But having that certainty for the next 7 years should be a positive, and middle pairing dmen should be getting this or more all day long in the not too distant future.
You and us other normals just can't comprehend the Yzerplan, lol.
It may look like a bunch of bad contracts on a team with no game breaking talent, but that's just because the unbelievers haven't basked in the saving light of the Yzerplan

I mean now that everyone but Jokiharu is making 3 Million Plus, And Clifton, Johnson and Samuelsson have not that great contracts, i feel as if buffalo is paying their defense way to much
Samuelsson to me is the worst, I also thought of including Clifton and Johnson but decided not to

Yzerman is good at drafting, but bad with contracts (Other than Larkin)
The leafs cap situation pushes JT on the list for me, If JT was making 11 Mil on Arizona or Anaheim i might of left him off
What about Dallas' cap situation?
And if the Leafs' cap hole is such a big issue, why aren't more Leafs on here? Unless you think 1 player, who's still a top 50 player in the NHL, sewered the Leafs cap
Would be interested to hear why you think Samuelsson is a bad contract. Having your top pair partner for Dahlin locked up for 7 years at just over 4 mil as an AAV doesn't seem bad at all. Take into consideration he is the only D-man on our team who knows how to play defense.

That changes after the season though. Right now Buffalo can afford to overpay guys like Johnson. It's like Chicago paying Perry and Foligno. The contract are too high, but it has no real implications.
What I see is they'll be paying their top two guys a lot and they locked in another top 4 player at a reasonable cap hit. I'd much rather do something like that than throw 4M+ on a guy like Gudas, Chiarot, Risto, etc.
If Samuelsson craps the bed, which I guess is possible but seems pretty unlikely, then feel free to take a victory lap when we chat down the line. I just don't see a guy who is on the upswing as belonging on the list. At worst, I think he'll end up as slightly overpaid.

I don't think that any other leafs have bad deals, Other than Murray
