So basically just $4M to fill out a bottom pairing with 2 guys and a healthy scratch. Seems manageable, this is my preferred approach.

Let’s hope Kovalenko is legit. I’m worried that Landeskog won’t be the same if/when he returns.

I wouldn't call Makar, Toews or Byram "small". They aren't big, either, but they aren't small. I'd also ignore the measurements you see here and elsewhere; they were taken years ago, around the time they were drafted or came into the league. It's highly likely they've added weight and possibly some height (no way Cale isn't at least 6' now)

I still think it's unlikely Behrens escapes playing at least one year in the AHL

At the beginning of training camp they are mesures and weighted. I think you should know since your a Avs fan

He's a college UFA potentially... So they'll have to give him some assurances, which is what they seemed to do with Ranta (who got playoff games and 10 regular season games to start the season) and Meyers. Behrens will be wary of having Toews, Byram, and Girard ahead of him too.

Who would you sign to fill 3RHD for $2m?

I agree. Whoever the 2/3 RHD is would need to be a bigger guy who can PK.

Saying that I wonder if they won't just stick with Manson and move Girard, especially with Behrens coming in. Byram/Girard/Behrens is pretty small for the bottom 4.

Always fascinated by ACGMers who will happily discard a solid but smaller dman for a Gudbranson, Gudas, Schenn type. It’s actually nice to see someone do the opposite.

“We need guys who can hit!” (If you can hold onto the puck, you won’t need to do much hitting).

Honestly, I don’t really care who it is. At the end of the day, your top 4 is going to play 20-25+ minutes each during the playoffs. So you basically just need a bottom pairing that can play it safe and PK some for like, 10-12 minutes a night. And ideally play up the lineup in case of injury.

Have you not seen how bad Girard has been defensively this season, and how much better Manson looks now that he's getting healthy

And he skates like Makar, hits like Pronger, and is locked in at $2m for 8 years
