Why Brannstrom? why not someone making to much money like Zub or (Next Year) Sanderson
And why would you bury a top 9 Forward???

Kubalik is the guy to trade. Good player, but his contract equals what Pinto will sign for and he won’t get re-signed at the end of the season.

Branstrom is a dud, they seem to like Zub. Also Branstrom is less commitment.

Kubalik gets traded next is my guess and they get more D.

I don’t like the idea of trading Monty but that is an acceptable trade. I’m not sure if Hughes accept tho

I agree I think he is a great cap hit and underrated, can play the tough games which some high paid guys ( I won’t name names) can’t.

They can always buy out Forsberg or trade and bring Monty back next year.

They have options for sure and little commitment.

I will take the time to mention I am excited about the Montreal D! I can’t wait to see how it evolves. Will not be pleasant around that net or in the corners.

I think Montreal would have to add their first to make this closer for Ottawa, that's how bad it is.

That trade with Montreal is god awful

Forsberg is better than Montembeault

Sens are not paying Forsberg, Brannstrom and a 1st for 3.0 of cap space and a goalie downgrade lol

I'd take a $ bet on that

I will keep this as reference for sure, I think Brannstrom will not even get 1.5 next year if he isn't qualified by Ottawa, which I think he wont be. But lets see what kind of season he has...I mean my comp is what guys like Sandin, Liljegren and say Dermott got in Toronto.

Sandin is a good comparable but better offensively so puts pts (which is the only way most hockey fans can evaluate players, hockeydb.com, I use a ton of sites)

Liljegren is good... there was no chance these 2 guys were going to be unqualified

Dermott wasn't but he looked like a bust at 26 y/o. He's getting another chance now

Not sure why these 3 names, seems completely random.

I mean their cap hit when signing at about Branstrom's age...it was much lower. I am not sure what it will be to qualify Branstrom...asume like 2.5? Which is too much for Ottawa and probably most teams.

His Qualifying Offer is $2,000,000, you could have looked it up, it's pretty easy

It's not too much at all for a quality young 2-way D-man who can fill up for injuries in the Top-4. Cap is rising by several millions next season, there will be buyouts, etc. Many teams would gladly take him. Maybe not on CF, but in the real world yes because NHL teams scout players

And Ottawa has no cap problems going forward, unless Dorion messes up again of course but the hope is that he won`t be there anymore

Whats the deal with Joseph? I mean when I see him play he has all the tools and is his deal worse than say a Kerfoot? Or even Domi? I know there is more term but...I get Dorian messed up the math a bit but he seems like a good player, young, all the skills you can't teach. Is he just the target to blame the teams slight cap issue on?

Ottawa looks good btw...

I like how they signed up guys like Stutzle and Tkachuk for very good deals...if I have the math right its about 2/3 or less than what the Leafs have locked up Marner and Matthews for and those are going up...I would take Tkachuk over Marner any day. Guys like (either) Tkachuk are hard to find...but guys say a little lesser than a playmaker like Marner (lesser quality and way lesser cap hit) come along all the time...OK HAA RANT OVER

Good luck, I think if Ottawa gets Pinto in the lineup its as good as any in that division, maybe better...

Sorry for the late response but yeah, pretty much. Ottawa doesn't have bad contracts anymore, because Dorion has already paid to get rid of them (Zaitsev and Murray) or the ended on the dead cap (which is like 5.1 M$ right now) so Joseph after a bit of a down year was quickly identified as a "cap dump" on this site but seriously, most of the time it's just stupid internet narratives. I have absolutely no problem with his contract, he's more than worth it when he plays like this.
