Next Season Roster Shake Up - Marner Andersson Girard Stamkos Duchene Schwartz

Description
To set the stage - assume the 23-24 Leafs finish top 5-10 in the regular season and get eliminated from the playoffs in the 1st or 2nd round

Trade values may not be exact - just add or subtract picks/prospects from either side to fine tune to what you think is fair

---Seattle Trade---

Marner is a fantastic player but the Leafs need space/assets for better quality defensemen. Schwartz gives the Leafs a strong defensive winger who has plenty of playoff and cup experience and can play in the top 6

SEA is a deep team with no superstars and will have plenty of cap space available to add Marner and extend him long term. He instantly becomes their best player

---Calgary Trade---

Leafs make use of assets and cap space from the Marner deal to add a top pairing D in his prime with a low cap hit

CGY just needs to retool or rebuild in my opinion. They have some good pieces but the core just isnt good enough to win with and many of them are on the older side. Lindholm, Andersson, Hanifin, etc can fetch good returns via trade and could put Calgary on a better path than mediocrity which is where they are at right now

---Colorado Trade---

Girard gives the Leafs another mobile D man who can help transition the puck to their elite forwards

After extending Toews, Colorado may have to move a roster player for cap reasons. I believe one of Girard or Manson will be on the move

---Free Agency---

Forwards - Keep an eye out for value forwards (similar to deals Rodrigues and Tatar have signed with Colorado) as well as some bigger fish who may be willing to take a discount to play for their hometown team (Stamkos, Duchene, etc)

Defense - The D core has mostly been reworked via trade so there isnt much needed here aside from a 6/7 D

Goalie - this years UFA class is pretty weak for Goalies so I think they either extend Samsonov or find a replacement via trade

Marner blocks the SEA trade. Hes starting slow but lets be real kids gonna get going soon we saw this a year ago.

Feels like to much for Rasmus Andersson. Nothing against him but this FA is loaded with Dman from Net front bruisers to offensive guys

If thats all for Girard its worth considering.

In general I think the plan for them is to see how Woll does then heavily spend on the Dcore via FA

Dillon or Zadorov gonna be a target for the third pair and potentially one of Demelo or Roy via FA / maybe we see Girard via trade

FA signings will be interesting but yea its to hard to predict. Like maybe Willy is moved in a blockbuster with a team massively overpaying for him. Maybe not

To early to say rn

Don't know why you trade a first round pick for a 5M d-man to put on the 3rd pairing. He is another small d-man the leafs don't need.

Girard would play 20+ mins a night on this roster.

He’d play 20 minutes a night on basically every team in the league. People thinking 25yr old dmen who produce points are awesome in transition and are actually good defensively albeit in a non-conventional way aren’t worth anything is funny especially when it is COL fans.

We've crossed that Timmins bridge already. Avs decline.
The return for Girard needs to be more than a single pick, even if it's a first rounder. A different player, such as a solid bottom 6 RW or another pick would be considerable.

yeah, exactly this - Timmins is not what the Avs want in this. The Leafs have too many winger prospects, and the Avs have too few, something like that would work.
