I don't think you need to do this. But I guess if there's no other choice you do it.

I've actually liked Beauvillier since being acquired and I'd look to re-sign him if he would be willing to take a low cap hit deal.

If it's between trading him with or Garland with retention I'd much rather move Beauvillier and free up the retention slot at the end of the season. It's possible there might be more options to move Garland in the offseason as well.

I wouldn't mind that either, but because of the abundance of wingers some of them will be put in spots where they won't get to shine as much. There was a stretch where Beauvillier looked pretty good beside Petey last season, but if he's playing in the bottom six there's probably another team that could utilize him better and VAN could gain some cap space.

Abundance? No maybe depth. Beauvillier should be seeing 1R mins, and Mikheyev should be seeing 3r mins not sure why they have it the other way around. Lets face it Beauvillier, Garland and Hoglander can be easily cycling through 1R mins but Mikheyev is better than all 3 of them in the 3R position. As for Bear I think we jump off that bridge when we get to it.

I think having a player on the 3rd line that you can play in the top-6 is very useful, but he would have to take a team friendly deal to stay for the reasons you pointed out.

I mean Habs would take this and run obviously but it would never be offered in the first place. Bear is nowhere good enough to justify Van doing this either so....

Disagree. It's all based on team need. If VAN feels they have the depth at wing to basically give away a player in order to bring back Bear then they'll do it. Bear isn't a world-beater, but he's a big upgrade on the right side over Myers, and their defence is still the team's achilles heal.

I agree, Mikheyev's game would be great in a 3rd line, two-way checking role. But line chemistry plays into it as well. I don't really worry too much about who plays with Petey, as everyone that does seems to excel, but having an effective group on the 3rd line should be a priority as well.

Then trade Beauvillier for RHD. Don't trade him for nothing AND retain half. Having to do that, just to sign Bear, diminishes the value Bear brings.

I'm sure the team is trying to find that fit for another decent RHD. Just not a lot available that are both an upgrade and come with a decent cap hit.
