Wishful Thinking 2425

Created by: JMS14
Team: 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 26, 2023
Published: Oct. 26, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Keep in mind the title here.
Making that big trade to solidify the Centre position for the next near decade. I'd be comfortable letting those players go in this instance, but I am thinking another part has to be added yet to get Van to accept.
I wondered if Ras or JB would take a cheaper 7 year deal, similar to Engvall/Wood/Tanev. I know they are all older then Ras or JB, but one can dream. If not the term goes down a few years and they are still on the team.
If more cap is needed then Maata could likely be traded to relieve $3M

Signs an 8x11 Extension. I doubt $11 is enough, but as the title says...
VAN
  1. Fabbri, Robby
  2. Kasper, Marco
  3. Wallinder, William
  4. 2025 1st round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Fabbri added for cap, unless he is on LTIR at that time. Kasper won't be needed if you are running EP, Larkin and Nate as your 3 Centres for the next 7 years. Not sure if Wallinder would move the needle or if ASP would need to be included. Also contingent if Vancouver can't get EP to sign with them. If he wants out there will still be enough suitors though.

You're about an Edvinsson and a Berggren short of EP, assuming EP keeps his pace from last year.

Unless we get a bargain, I don't think it'll be worth it.

Definitely not close. It's probably a little more than the Tkachuk trade as your comparable for value. The reason I say more is the contract situation and player quality is probably pretty comparable, but Petty plays a more valuable position and doesn't have the public deceleration of not signing handcuffing the team.

I agree with both. Figured I was a bit light, but this is also why I put in the last line in the trade. "If Van feels they can't resign him" (because EP Wants to leave) then there will be some discount to it. If that is the case there will be a lineup of teams offering packages, but also only so many that can make the Cap work as well. Wishful thinking for sure though.

Unfortunately this isn't enough. Kasper, Wallinder and the 1st is a good start but they'd prob ask for Ed over Wallinder and Danielson over Kasper. Then it quickly becomes not worth it.

Yzerman is hopefully all in on Nylander this summer.

The thing is, it won't be public that he won't sign there. It changes the dynamic vs hasn't got signed yet.

If Nylander will sign for about $8M a season Yzerman will be all in. Before the season started DeBrincat had more goals in fewer games ad the same ppg as Nylander and signed for$ 7.875M. So why give Nylander the $9M to $10M and after the holdout in 2017. Let him go elsewhere.

Nylander is a much better player than Cat is, IMO. He's an elite, elite forward, Cat is a really good -player and great goal scorer. Nylander takes a team to a new level.

Anything over $10M I probably balk at, but anything under 10 for 6-7 years I am all in. The cap is going up there's plenty of space.
