Detroit fans how far off is this trade

Created by: SGB88
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 28, 2023
Published: Oct. 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Both players seem pretty comparable. Hoglander has a little more impressive scoring profile and is younger, but obviously small (he plays a lot bigger and has a fire hydrant build). Rasmussen is obviously huge and can play center, although he isn't right now.

Canucks are probably a little further ahead in rebuild/retool timeline and so swapping up in age makes a little sense.

I assume Canucks need to add in this trade, but I wouldn't think it's much. Retention is for cap reasons this season. Could be dealt with in a different way.

I assume the Canucks will probably need to add a little, but I don't think its off by much?

Don't think Detroit considers this whatsoever, or trading Rasmussen for a lateral asset, as Rasmussen's immense size actually helps the team not play like pansies.
Plus, he's gotten pretty good.

If I'm understanding what you're saying. You don't think there actual value is far apart, but you don't like the fit?

Red Wings have been very patient with Ras. Drafted in 2017. Last season he took a step and he's now figuring out how to use his size to create offense for himself and his teammates.

I'd be surprised if Yzerman traded him.

Yeah, I don't think values are immensely different. Granted, Hoglander past two looks in the NHL have been subpar compared to his rookie season, but I think that's a fault of the system moreso than the player.

It's not far off in terms of value, but I don't see this as a good fit. Detroit is small up front with Raymond, Berggren, Debrincat... Rasmussen's size and physicality is needed.

As far as value it is not based on performance as goals scored but on intangibles. Wings got pushed around last year once Rasmussen was out. He brings a big body that is needed for a team with smaller wingers. Yzerman made an effort to get bigger. He added Fisher and Klostin, both of which are not not offensive juggernauts but Rasmussen is better offensive y and is also big. He may not be a great 1st round pick but he is a player most teams love, he goes unto corners checks, and can pot the occasional.goal. Just do not think Yzerman would forego that for another skilled winger who is not big and brings a specific value.

Honestly wasn't as interested in whether Detroit does this trade, than how the values stack up. I appreciate the whole fit issue. There's a Canucks fan who I don't think gets Hog's value and the kind of player you could theoretically swap him for (if you can make the fit work obviously).

Value I don't think it's that far off i just think a guy like Ras is a better fit in Detroit at the moment. If I thought hogs offensive upside was a bit higher then maybe.

Detroit declines big time, We already traded for a 5.8" Alex DeBrincat, Makes no sense trading a 6'6" Michael Rasmussen for a 5'8" Nils Hoglander. We're trying to get bigger not smaller.

I'm not as wedded to keeping Ras as other Detroit fans are but I also think this isn't a trade that Yzerman would do. Ras is able to play centre and do so really well, he's a big part of our PK and is really good defensively and with shotblocking. Those are areas where Höglander isn't going to help us in any way. We are also not short of left shooting wingers. If you absolutely want Rasmussen then you'd have to give up someone like Lekkerimäki to get him (we'd take Beauvillier off your hands to make the money work).

Lekkermaki before the playoffs last year, we might have said yes to this. That being said if you want to deal Kasper for him, I'm down. I was so mad, when you scooped him from us. It's unfair that Detroit has been ahead of us the last few years scooping our picks.

Although you were nice enough to let us have Hughes... Nevermind. I'm happy wink

Tbh, considering you guys have Eklund AND Smith, I think you guys would be just as happy with Eiserman.

He told Hughes that we were not drafting him.
We would've drafted Bouchard.
He stank.
