Hate this proposal. He is a free agent at the end of the year and also 33 years old. Garland straight up would be fair value. Flames are going to have a hard time signing players so Garland has term. That's enough.

Exactly we should not be giving up anything of significance for a rental. 1st is so far out of the question is laughable,.

I agree. Now if the Canucks were on the verge of having an great shot at the cup (like the Canes or Avs) than that is the kind of trade you do. In this case you keep your valuable assets and try for the playoffs and go from there.

No one wants Garland. The Flames have $30M in cap space this upcoming off season and no need to tie themselves to another undersized middle 6 winger. If you think Garland and Tanev have similar value or fit in the same deal then I would be lead to believe this is the first time you have been around for an NHL trade deadline. The Flames also don't need to sign players, if they ship out Lindholm, Hanifin, Tanev and fill their roster with their current pipeline and pieces gained in trades there's no need to go UFA hunting at all, that's a moot point.

Exactly. If you have a deep enough team to win, you have assets you can trade. The Canucks are hood rich. Traded so many futures just to get this far. Which is a hot start essentially and a bunch of missed playoff yrs.

Calgary could have fifty million in cap space next year and by the time Free Agency rolls around you will probably still have fifty million in cap space.

I mean "by the time free agency rolls around" doesn't really say that at all. That's like saying man I can't wait for all the snow to melt by the time winter rolls around. You said Garland for Tanev 1 for 1, let's settle down on calling other peoples proposals bad. The one in the this post isn't close that's fine but there's no need to just start spewing nonsense!

Caps decline, they don't have room at RD. And why get rid of Myers, hasn't he had a decent start of the season?
