Description
The better the Canucks play the cheaper they can sign Bear for. Bear wants a team with good RD opportunities and that's competing to maximize his chance to showcase his abilities, ideally in the playoffs and Canucks provide that opportunity. He's played here before and maybe he gets to play with Hughes.

I've seen Roslevic 50% retained for a 3rd suggested by CBJ fans, I don't know if the Garland trade works, but I guess let me know. The term on Garland isn't necessarily a downside for CBJ since they can have trouble signing players sometimes and they have the space.

For the Canucks this improves the RD and 3c (especially from an offensive perspective), plus it make sure the Canucks have lots of defense and center depth for the playoffs. With this, the Canucks have a left and right center on both bottom lines. They also have double RD as their scratches, but once the playoffs hit there is no roster or cap limit and they can call up there depth d which is all LD.

I think this a great great-depth piece, and with term for next year I think will be really helpful. I saw him offered for a 3rd in another trade thread by a Montreal fan. When I suggested I thought he was worth more threw in Woo.

Canucks should have claimed him. But, he probably would have stunk it up here pre-Tocchet. He'd be a solid add but I get why Montreal is happy to have him, especially at that $.

At the moment Kovacevic have a greater value for MTL then that 3rd pick. Mtl have a abondance of D prospect and also over 30 pick in the next 3 draft. Unless mtl get the player they are looking for or a offer then can absolutely not refuse they won’t simply gave him away. I would say that value wise that probably a good offer. Just not what Mtl are looking for right now.

Oh yeah for sure, I think you've got to pay for him. Montreal fans seem to think he's worth no more than 3rd, I think he's worth more. I'd consider a second since you're getting him for 2 years at that cap hit. He seems like a great fit for us. Too bad we didn't pick him up.

With these moves we've got lots of space for next year.

He is nothing fancy, but he can stand is ground against NHLers. He is a good skater and defend well. On a shutdown bottom pairing he would be excellent. He doesn’t have much offense to is game but doesn’t all the ohter thing pretty well. Not sure why Winnipeg didn’t play him. Especially since they aren’t that deep on defense.

Do you think at the deadline, if they're ready to have some of their RD prospects move up, they would do it? What about adding Juulsen or Irwin going back as well, at least someone to help shore up RD at an NHL level?

Yeah, those are exactly the qualities the Canucks are looking for in an RD like that. They've got plenty of scoring on the D already obviously.

Unless Mailloux or Reinbacher show that they are definitely ready for a full time role i don’t see MTL trading him.

Most reasonable habs fans think hes wprth more than a 3rd.

Theres a lot of value in a big RD with a bit of term on the cheap. Canucks fans wpuld be acutely aware of that given they paid poolman 2.5 million to exist and be a RD lol.

If he gets moved i dont think it will be by himself I think it will be part of the inevitable monahan trade where by adding him its a multiple hole filling trade and the habs get something back that they couldnt if the two trades were seperate.

Can’t see the jackets trading for garland without retention. In this scenario I’d like to see the jackets half retain on roslovic and the Canucks retain 2 million

Cant believe Im saying this.. But no chance this team healthy scratches Myers right now, hes been a beast the last 6 games! I think if we can free up a bit of space with the Garland trade and sign Bear we are set on D.

Id be able to swallow the Roslovic trade purely for the freedom it gives the group next offseason even though I think its a downgrade.

I don't care which of Myers, Bear or Kvocacevic is benched. If it's the playoffs chance that one of our top 4 RD will be injured.

With Roslovic you're getting cap space this year for Bear, you're upgrading center where we want more depth at the cost of the wing where we're fine, plus free cap space up for the next two years. Obviously, Garland is better if you don't consider those factors.

Even if you can also have Roslovic and Suter switch out center duties depending on if you're pressing for goal/on pp vs trying to hold a lead.

That trade would be crazy for the Canucks to do. Garland would be a steal at 3m, his value would be crazy if he was a legit top 6 winger on a 3m contract, especially when the cap goes up next year. Roslovic is a nice pickup at the TDL 50% retained, but the suggested value I have for that is a 3rd. That just isn't an even or sensible trade. Plus it defeats the number one reason to do this trade, which is make space for next year. You're going to replace that value with something that costs more than 3m next year for sure. The 4th is to pay for the difference in value for Garland's slightly inefficient cap. I could see the argument for slightly more like a 7th or c prospect.

Yes I agree but garland has negative value to the jackets without retention. Roslovic half retained should fetch a nice pick at the deadline. Jackets are trying to shed future cap so unfortunately this trade doesn’t make much sense for them
