I think there are better players both fit-wise and in terms of actually getting assets back that the caps could take on with the Backy LTIR space

Because there is a portion of Caps fans who are morons....They think because he gets dinged up every year that he should just decide not to play and retire....they did the same with Nicky B with his hip surgery and now they're trying to think it into existence with Oshie I guess

Really shallow take here. People expect Oshie to eventually LTIRetire not because of the number of injuries, but what's been injured. The guy's had back and ankle injuries that he's stated has made it hard to do daily life activities, so it's not unrealistic to expect a guy who has struggled with back problems to eventually hang it up. I don't think he will, I've met him multiple times and you can tell his drive to play is unmatched, I expect he'll play until no one gives him a contract anymore. But it's far from moronic to expect that he'd retire with some of the chronic injuries he's faced.

Backstrom injury is also not comparable. Anyone who knew anything about hip resurfacing surgery knows it's not one NHL players come back from. Only one NHL player who had the surgery before Backstrom had ever played after (Ed Jovonovski) and he only played about a half a season before retiring, and the only other sports/entertainer to come back was the Undertaker (who worked about 20ish matches over the next 8 years and required a hip replacement after). It was sadly a matter of time before he retired, everything in that surgery's history led to that logical conclusion.

You literally just said that you expect him to play until no one gives him a contract....so why would he retire until said contract expires....................

reread it and come back to me. My belief is not the same as others, and one would reasonably expect most players in Oshie's position to retire.
