Small Move

Created by: exo2769
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 10, 2023
Published: Nov. 10, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rangers fans. You've got a good team. Great special teams units. Great defense. Can't complain about the offense. Very physical playoff style game. I'd say just add a veteran playoff presence that's been there MANY times before. Don't over think it.

Oh, and don't rely on Gus too much. He can move the puck...sure, but he's awful defensively. Just keep his minutes protected. HIGH OZone% starts and PP time.

Take a look at Perry's last 4 seasons in the playoffs. It's what you dream of for a veteran presence. Low ATOI because he's not in your top 6, but still producing points. You NEED all 4 lines with the ability to score. 9 points, 10 points, 11 points, then 5 points BUT only in 6 games. He's who the NYR should be targeting and there really shouldn't even be a close 2nd. Not even Kaner.

2nd for a 4th liner seems like an overpayment. Plus I doubt Drury wants to waste majority of their TDL cap on Perry

Perry would be a nice fit at tdl. Bonino is a keeper, him & Gus have been gold

Unless there's an injury...what else would you look to acquire? I wouldn't mess with the chemistry too much. That's what happened last year.

Drury says NOPE, no thanks to an overpaid Perry.

If Perry would be open to a trade at the TDL then the Hawks would accept.

You do realize that he has 8 points in 12 games this year...right? $2M is an extremely reasonable price for Perry.

I know exactly who and what Perry is, and no thanks to him. Rangers will be just fine with Bonino centering the 4th line with Goodrow and Vesey/Pitlick.

If any of you Ranger fans have Drury’s ear, tell him to trade Perrault to the Hawks, please.

That is just the thing, Pitlick and Bonino does a good job as bottom 6 fillers, but for cheap. Goodrow does the same good job but makes almost 4 m, hence it ONLY makes sense IF he is included in the deal, not our cheap bottom 6 guys.

We're not going to see eye to eye on Goodrow. We'll have to leave that one alone. Neither Bonino/Pitlick are even close to Perry. Heck Pitlick's only played 5 games this year. Pitlick has 3 career points in the playoffs. The NYR should want to win the cup. Pitlick isn't helping you do that.

Paying a 2nd for Perry isn't doing that for me personally either. So agree to disagree grin

Playing top line minutes Bedard is very different than playing 4th line minutes with Vesey.

He's played the same role with DAL, MTL, TBL and went to the Cup Finals 3 of the last 4 years. He played a 4th line role and still averaged 10 points in those 3 cups runs. Playoff depth scoring is impossible to measure, but he's done it consistently.

New York does not overpay to that extent.
Also respectfully delete that Gus remark. While that was the case in some of his previous seasons, he's been AWESOME on defence this season. Like, up to the point where I'm having second thoughts of giving Ryan Lindgren a 6 year deal next offseason.
