IF you want to include Drai in Mock Trades

Created by: tjk
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 10, 2023

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If you want to trade for Draisaitl in your armchair gms (albeit this will never happen), I've listed the starting points for every franchise. Also, teams with (*) are possible (>10% chance), and teams with (X) are impossible. Also, these are the starting points, not straight-up. Your team would have to add picks/prospects and take bad cap. (/) denotes "or".

* Boston Bruins: McAvoy, and Ullmark/Swayman

* Buffalo Sabres: Dahlin/Power, and Cozens/Tage

* Detroit Red Wings: Seider, Raymond, and Edvinsson

Florida Panthers: Barkov and Ekblad/Montour

X - Montreal Canadiens: N/A

* Ottawa Senators: Stutzle/Tkachuk

Tampa Bay Lightning: Vasy

X - Toronto Maple Leafs: N/A

Arizona Coyotes: Keller, Schmaltz, and Cooley

* Chicago Blackhawks: Bedard

X - Colorado Avalanche: N/A

Dallas Stars: Robertson/Miro and Johnston

Minnesota Wild: Kirill and Boldy

* Nashville Predators: Josi/Saros, Askarov/Novak, Kemell, etc.

St. Louis Blues: Kyrou, Binner, and Thomas

X - Winnipeg Jets: N/A

* Carolina Hurricanes: Aho

Columbus Blue Jackets: Fantilli, Johnson, Sillinger, etc.

* New Jersey Devils: Hughes/Hischier, and Hughes/Nemec

New York Islanders: Barzal

New York Rangers: Mika

Philadelphia Flyers: Konecny, Farabee, York, and Hart

Pittsburgh Penguins: N/A

Washington Capitals: N/A

X - Anaheim Ducks: N/A

X - Calgary Flames: N/A

X - Los Angeles Kings: N/A

X - San Jose Sharks: N/A

X - Seattle Kraken: N/A

X - Vancouver Canucks: N/A

X - Vegas Golden Knights: N/A

The likelihood of Drai trade is small (>10%0, beyond that over half the team can't trade for them. Either because they don't have the assets or Edmonton simply will not deal him to them. Beyond that, it will cost at least your best player, if not also your second-best player to get him, and multiple picks and prospects. And not garbage picks and prospects. I'm talking your 2-3 best, and 2-3 1sts.

With that being said I could see Nash, Car, NJ, Det, Ott, or Buf, as the most "likely" spots he could go to.

If Drai want's to move he'll dictate where that will be with a NMC, and if he only has one option you really can't argue too much on price, if the guy is going to walk, he walks.

He'll just walk Tavares-style in 2025 and Edmonton gets nothing.

For Draisaitl, and I know this would be a massive package, but the Oilers should want:
-a goalie
-a top four defender who can defend really well while also being a good puck mover
-a winger that can score 25 goals
-a very good prospect
-a first round pick.

All of that, not just some of that

Serious question here, why would the Oiler not deal with any team? Even if moved within the division the return on Drai would outweigh the sting of moving him to a rival. Imagine Holland not listening to offers from Vancouver when they would have to offer up someone like Hughes or EP (not happening btw just an example) you are lucky you aren't a GM with that mindset cause if you were you would be fired pretty quickly, it doesn't matter what team makes the best offer, as a GM you take it and don't say no cause you are a divisional rival. That's like saying no I won't trade my lambo for your Ferrari + Cadillac + Lexus + BMW cause you live across the street and I would have to see you drive it everyday, like give your head a shake buddy!

Also the teams you listed as not having the assets, actually do have the assets. Montreal could but probably wouldn't offer Suzuki + Caufield and that is a package the Oilers would take, you are seriously over valuing Draisaitl by a lot if you think teams like Buffalo would have to add to Dahlin + Thompson. You are too emotionally attached to be realistic IMO

Trading Draisaitl is Edmonton's best option to turn things around and I expect fans will be disappointed with the return. Everyone knows Edmonton is desperate and will take advantage of that. If they do nothing, it's likely he leaves as a free agent after next season and McDavid likely follows. If they can get a starting goaltender, a defensive defenseman and a top six forward or 1st round pick they should take it. Holding out for what you consider fair value isn't going to work.

Great player, worth alot. BUT, he has a NTC. So he decides where and if he goes. That being said, these are so high.
