Trades

  1. Hughes, Quinn
  2. Sasson, Max

Description

Hughes - EK
Centerpiece

Sasson - Perron
young AHL filler. I don’t know anything about him, so if you like him just replace with an appropriate option in your brain
VAN
  1. Bahl, Kevin
  2. McLeod, Michael
  3. Nemec, Simon
  4. Stillman, Chase
  5. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
  6. 2025 1st round pick (NJD)
  7. 2025 2nd round pick (NJD)
  8. 2026 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Player - Comp
Description

Nemec - Norris
Top Prospect. For Ottawa that was Norris, for NJ that’s Nemec. A grade Prospect
Not sure there’s a good forward prospect at this level for the devils to use instead

McLeod - Tierney
Bottom Six young established NHL center able to play up and down the lineup when needed.
If Defensemen - Bahl

Stillman - Balcers
B Prospect in the AHL.
Other forward options could be Foote, Filmon, or an unsigned prospect

Bahl - DeMelo
Young NHL defensemen with room to grow
Forward option could be Holtz, but moving Holtz likely means a downgrade elsewhere. Maybe Bastian is more appropriate, but probably means adding value to another comp.
Could also have a goalie replacement for the position with Schmid here as a younger NHL goalie with some upside

For the picks:

Two 1sts should be all but guaranteed, since NJ has a much more positive outlook for their playoff future. Maybe that’s hindsight talking, but maybe just top pick or top 3 protection hanging there. Or you can imagine similar conditions to what EK trade actually had doesn’t matter to me

There is not a single thing NJD could offer to get Quinn. He is as untouchable as they get especially now that he is our captain.

Seems like a bit of an overpayment but he’s likely worth it

He was actually who I had in there first before I decided Nemec, so I would definitely agree

That’s not really the exercise here though. It’s just building a trade comparable to what SJ gave up for the best offensive defensemen playing at that time

Can’t imagine anything less than an overpay wiggles him free from Vancouver rn, right?

Well the reason would be because Quinn Hughes is very good at hockey. This isn’t necessarily something I would want to happen though, but im just building what I think could be a comp to one of the biggest blockbusters of the decade. So I’m not sure what there is to move on from

My two thoughts were Nemec and Casey. I feel like they (right now) have the same top line ceiling that Norris had at the time.

The outcome I would want for sure. I’m not team trade for Quinn at all

That’s fine, but also not the point. The point is what a comparable trade would be using the Erik Karlsson deal

By 2025, new Harris Blitzer CEO Jim Hughes will get it done

Karlsson is not a good comparison for Hughes. Statistically, Hughes is a similar player to what Karlsson was at the time of the trade. However, Hughes just turned 24 a few weeks ago while Karlsson was 28 and a half years old when dealt. Additionally, Hughes has 4 year of term left while Karlsson was a rental at the time of the deal with just 1 year left on his contract.

The fact that Hughes is 4.5 years younger and comes with 4x the term would make his value much more than Karlsson's. Simply put, there is no comparison for Quinn Hughes on the trade market since a player of his calibre at his age simply hasn't been moved for probably 30+ years, if ever at all.

Neither side does this. NJ doesn’t need a no1 Dman with Hamilton already being paid for it, neither side wants to part with the assets necessary to make it happen, and NJ can’t afford his contract rn anyway. Revisit when he wants to leave as a UFA
