Mantha has 0 value, No way are you getting both Jenner and Laine for that. You might get one but you're not getting both.

columbus says no thank you and it's not even close.

they would get far more value out of trying to stick it out with laine and hoping he returns to the form he showed over the last two years than they would trading him (and a second valuable asset in jenner, in this example) for a cap dump, an unproven young player and a late first.

Mantha is just w/e. They could waive him and probably make the cap work or close. Can understand it might need some more juice for CBJ, though not sure it's too much more.

Jenner has more value to the Jackets than he does to any team that just needs some plug third line center. Shoot, if a team needs one of those, Columbus is happy to send you Jack Roslovic once his ankle heals.

why are you trade Lap after he just showed you he can be a great 3c when given proper linemates? Laine looks like absolute trash and likely will kill his trade value soon... Jenner isnt really needed

Aren't all prospects unproven? Any team trading for Laine or Jenner would be a late first potentially. But I get not wanting to move Laine now.

I get it. But I felt this offer met the wants in Columbus but probably short somewhat

Definitely agree Lap is is good young player. Something in CBJ isn't working and before Maine's value bounces back, I think it's a good opportunity. Both guys have term so it's a plus but I get the hesitation. All in all, I like the lines though and think it's very deep.

Don’t think there’s any motivation for either side to do it. Selling Laine at an all time low when he’s struggling with post-concussion syndrome and Jenner immediately after he set the record for most games played as a Blue Jacket doesn’t make sense for Columbus, and Washington doesn’t need either of them and shouldn’t have any interest in moving Lapierre or their first (as I don’t believe they’re truly a contender).

Makes sense from both perspectives. With Laine struggling that was the idea, to make a move for him. I like the lines/depth in Washington, and don't see Jenner as a plug but good depth, even if it might be Jimbo style to send assets out lol

Actually I'd personally like Roslovic as an add. I think he could be cheap enough in terms of assets considering the Caps have enough space to take that contract on without sending any money back, and maybe he'll make an impact on a line with Ovi and Strome, or with Kuznetsov.

I like Jenner as an add for the Caps but I also get why CBJ would want much more for than him than is reasonable.

Laine ... idk man. Feel like people are realllly holding onto that 16-17 season as their image of him rather than what he has been in CBJ which is a winger with good to great counting stats but horrible underlyings who can't stay healthy. I don't envision any Caps trade for him that doesn't have Kuzy (basically the playmaking center version of Laine) going the other way, and even then I'm not sure I even see the caps adding a first to get it done. It would be really fun to have him in DC but not sure it would make the team better.

Also for anyone in the comments yelling about Mantha 1) he's actually been pretty ok this year and 2) to make big deals work you have to take back some cap to facilitate a move. An expiring deal like Mantha is about as good as you're going to get rather than the Hoffman/Petry/Granlund package of junk SJS/MTL/DET dealt with to get the Karlsson deal over the line, LAK had to retain some of Provorov to get off Petersen. You get picks for taking bad contracts if they have multiple years or if you actually gain cap space in the deal.

He's very good as a complimentary player on a line with someone with high hockey IQ, so he'd probably do great with Strome, especially as a great skater to compliment Strome's skating deficiencies. He's just being squeezed out of Columbus at both center and wing by younger players (sillinger, Fantilli, maybe even KJ at center; the three Russians at wing). A deal of him for more mid-range return would work for us.
