Leafs Have To Survive One Year Only

Created by: KingExLeafs
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 21, 2023
Published: Nov. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs can manage paying four forwards 10 million plus for one year. After that, JT's contract will be half of what it is, plus the cap will continue to go up.

Knies, Robertson, Minten and Cowan have all proven they can contribute in a top 9 role. And there's still plenty of cap left to address the blueline.

I agree, if he keeps at this pace he will be looking for closer to Matthews money.

Leafs aren’t trading lily so he needs to be added to this roster

Leafs started negotiations in the high 8s. This contract isn't a discount. It's an admission on management's part that Nylander was right all along and that he deserved double digits.

I don't see Nylander getting 11 million unless he puts up a 50 goal season.

Forgot about him. He's irrelevant at this point because he's either injured or playing as the 6th defenceman. He needs to step up and actually be an integral piece on this team.

Dude he could get 60 😛 he’s on pace for 58.

He took a massive leap this year. I was one of the people who wouldnt have paid more than 9 in the offseason, now id probably sign 11.5

But it's a long season. We'll see. He's definitely playing inspired hockey. If he plays like this in the playoffs and wins a Conn Smythe like Marchessault did last year then give him 12.

Agreed 12 is probably the ceiling. For me it was the trip to Sweden that made me realize he’s not just doing this because its a contract year. He’s actually got more in the tank for when it comes time for playoffs. Im sold now

I think he can get Pasta money with his production this year - he has definitely taken the next step and been the Leafs best player by far. Factor in Marner making $10.9, I think $11M is the floor for Nylander's next contract. Barring an injury this season, Nylander is a lock to break 50 goals and 100 points.

If he hits the open market, I think some teams will be willing to go to $12M AAV for him.

Thankfully, you’re not out gm. willy is playing out of this world, but it’s been 17 games; maybe you need to chill. McJesus is not even top 50 in scoring - is he overpaid? 🤦🏻

DeMelo is looking like a top pair shut down defenceman that can kill penalties. With a right handed shot, exactly what this team needs, id overpay and give him 6x6. 6x5 would be ideal. Full nmc for first 4 years.

Prior to his injury, Liljegren had been skating nearly 20 minutes per night (19:23), contributing on both special teams and posting the third-best 5v5 expected goal percentage on the club (55.79%).

Um, he has defiantly stepped up.

I hesitate to compare him to Marner because they’re just such different players and Marner is actually better defensively than he is offensively. But you can definitely compare him to pasta, just the ability to break a game wide open, he could prove to be a top 10 player in the league

He either needs to be more physical or contribute more offensively. I think he's a replacement level player. A top 4 defenceman should be noticeable. Liljegren doesn't really stand out.

Every Leafs fan knows it’s because it’s contract year. Once he signs the big deal, it will be old Willy again to make sure he doesn’t get injured. I say trade him now while his stock is high

Your approach is better - wildly overreact to small sample size - ignoring the 8 years previous he’s played for the same team. Willy is, and has been, a great player but unless / until he wins art ross, rocket, hart and conn smythe - he’s not getting more than Pasta 🤦🏻. Just nonsense to keep pushing that narrative.

I never said either of those things. For me to suggest that IF a player stays going at the same pace as he is now would command higher money is not illogical. You're just being a troll and being rude.
Go pound sand big guy.
