I admire your loyalty! I do…but some thoughts…

What happened to Cowan
Robertson looks like an AHLer at best but in two years he is your 1st liner with Matthews and Marner, maybe put Cowan in that spot…or maybe put Cowan in as second line center as…
Domi looks barely a 4C right now but in 2 years he is a 2C?
Umm is Jones really the backup? I would be ok if you put Hildeby there.
Reaves will be long gone.

He's hoping that Marner would sign a matching contract and take a less than 100K pay raise. Guessing he's worried that Nylander would want significantly more than 11M but if Marner signs the same, he will be content with 11M.

If the leafs payed Willie 10.25Mx8=82M. any other team signing him for 7yrs would have to give him 11.714M per year to equal the 82M. The only teams that could afford that is teams not close to being a playoff team.

Robertson has 4 points in 6 games so far. Now he does tend to start off hot then go cold when he's playing in the NHL before getting injured again. In the end, though he could definitely be more than an AHLer (he's proven that the AHL is too easy) if he actually gets the opportunity to learn in the NHL. Injuries definitely have been a huge obstacle for him, 37 games in the NHL over 4-seasons is definitely not enough to say that he can only be an AHLer at best especially considering the tools that he has. The only thing that is standing in his way is health really, and I think the OP would rather predict that he ends up staying healthy at some point.

There's no reason to rush Cowan, but he's probably pushing for a spot in two years.

Domi is looking just fine as the 3C, he was playing wing at first but since being moved over to C and being joined by Robertson, that line has been providing some great secondary scoring. I agree though that he's probably not going to be the 2C anytime soon.

Crazy the level of confidence that people have in Jones when he hasn't even played for the Leafs or well for the Marlies. Hidelby is definitely a better option.Whatever happened to Dryden McKay after his suspension?

I agree that Reaves won't be put on LTIR, if he isn't traded or they can't afford to have him sit in the press box, then he's probably playing out his contract in the minors.

Why do you ignore the earning potential in the year following the 7 year contract? With 7 years of cap raises, who knows how much he could sign for, even in his mid 30s. Sure, it's not a guarantee, but so far, it seems like Nylander is a person that is fine betting on themselves.

You also forgot to account for taxes. An AAV doesn't reflect the take home pay. As we know, tax situation in Canada and Ontario aren't spectacular. A team with better (lower) taxes could offer him a lower AAV but he'd take home more.

Finally, you forgot to account for the value of playing for a fan base that hasn't been trying to run him out of town every year, making him the scapegoat for each failed playoff season, even though he's been one of the better playoff performers on the team, especially when you consider his contract compared to the rest of the "Core Four".

I heard both Nylander and Marner will take Team friendly offers same as Captain Underpants did.....oh wait...

why the f would either of them go for 8 x 11M if Matthews commanded 5 x 11,634M after two consecutive 60+ Seasons and he was on the way of 90+ points ( i believe it was 32 Games, 37 Points ) at the time when he dictated his contract and "helped TML". Not to mention the latest one .....

Marner has three 90+ Seasons notched on his belt now and Nylander has two 80+ Seasons and projecting 130 this Season......

THINK AGAIN

Robertson will never be tough enough or two way enough for the bottom 6…and I just don’t think he has the skill of a top 6…let’s see

For me Domi is a perfect 4C with two energy guys with size and skill like McMann.

Cowan makes the team next year, that enthusiasm is needed on the roster…and the skill is a huge bonus…he really way exceeded my expectations.

Ya Reaves is so cheap to bury so all these deals where Leafs pay to dump him make no sense.

Leafs roster has some flexibility now with Klingberg out. My guess is he never plays a game for the Leafs again. Not sure what people expected, I thought he played as advertised.

I hope he goes to Vegas, would love to see him on that team…and they can make the space.

I still think Domi is more of a 3C than a 4C.

Cowan will be eased into the roster, he would have to do something pretty special and also be needed for the Leafs not to keep him in the minors as long as they can. Pretty Knies is the only guy who wasn't held down due to waiver-exempt status, next year there will be a cap crunch so it won't be much different than in the past. The Leafs will need ELC players but I think they go with a guy like Minten because he's on an expiring contract. They probably don't want Cowan to be worth 5M coming off his ELC.

He turned out to be worse than advertised though due to his injury progressing perhaps. Everyone expected that his defense be poor overall even if some had hoped that maybe he would be less of a liability with the right partner. I think after the first 8 games, the offense disappeared and he was worse than expected with the turnovers. Klingberg has always been notorious for turnovers exiting his own zone, but this guy was turning the puck over on unforced errors on the PP.

I'm guessing he does hip surgery and that ends his career. If not then perhaps he could be brought back on another 1-year deal next year if Timmins doesn't work out. My guess though is he's more than likely on another team or retired. I feel pretty bad for him, missing out on 52-54M or whatever it was.
