Question for fellow bruins fans

Description
Question is this, would you trade a package centered around Lohrei for Hanifin? Loved Lohrei as a prospect for a while now, so this isn't just a reaction to him struggling these past couple games, just something I've been thinking about. But reality is it's unlikely Lohrei is ever as good as Hanifin is right now, and Hanifin fits the Pasta/McAvoy timeline. Idk what Flames fans think, but I'd imagine trading a top 4LHD for a package around a LHD prospect that looks like he'll eventually be a top 4 guy makes sense.

The obvious Pro would be that a Hanifin-McAvoy, Lindholm-Carlo is the best top 4 in hockey.

The obvious con is that once you re-sign Hanifin you likely have over 25 mil allocated to the top 4 alone. But maybe having Poitras, Beecher, and hopefully soon Lysell on ELCs with the cap going up drastically over the next 2 seasons give you enough is enough to justify that.

Ignore the salary cap for now, this is just a general question

Boston wouldn’t do this. Bruins are already paying Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm $16,000,000 total, Hanifin likely gets atleast 7 million. Not sure the Bruins want $23,000,000 in just 3 defenders.

But don’t get me wrong… I’d love Noah Hanifin in a Bruins jersey.

My perspective is any trade you consider for a salary has to consider the opportunity cost in free agency for a team like Boston. My belief is any player who wants to be part of a winning culture would seriously consider coming here

Would i rather have Hanifan or Lohrei and Bertuzzi?

I respect Hanfan as a player and if we didn’t have Lindholm, I’d be all for acquiring him. Would you force him on PP1 or PP2. If not, is he going to be worth the money you pay him? Roster construction wise, he’s not the type of defender I target.

Depends on rest of package. Must agree to extension.

I’d be ok with them doing it, be ok with them not doing it.

They can only make 1 big move this year, defense is not the place they need to do it so it does not make much sense.

I just have this feeling defense is gonna be the place that Sweeney ends up adding again, I don't think Monty is comfortable relying on Gryz and Sweeney knows that.

They need more help up front and it sounds like Flames were close to a $60M extension with Hanifin which is $7.5Mx8 or higher AAV with less years. That's way too much for Hanifin.

They'll have Lindholm (all-around), Lohrei (offense/PP) and another defensive/PK guy next year.

That's next year, but we're currently first in the league and I just question how willing Sweeney is gonna be to go into the playoffs with Gryz in the top 4.

Idk how you afford him too. If you're going to add another 7 million dollar player it has to be a center first I'd think.

There's no point in adding a rental that will leave in July. If anything, they should look at a Grzelcyk trade instead of losing him for nothing although nobody can replace him in the top4 so they may have to keep him. Biggest priority is adding up front.

I'd say no.
FWD-Lindholm is the best CAL target and area of teams most need.

LD Lohrei is playing well, years younger than UFA NH and he's uber-cost-controlled.

Lohrei does one spectacular and one stupid thing every other shift. I’m amazed at his ability to carry the puck. At the same time, I’m disenchanted by his willingness to try moves where he puts the puck at risk when he’s the last line of defense. I think Monty will coach the dumb out of him

Then you look at this years equivalent of Luke Schenn, which may also reside in Calgary. The question is whether Montgomery is concerned about Grz specifically or wants a top level player like Orlov? I’ll say that I think an issue during the Panther series was the lack of cohesion with all the new players

Just a kid w/ only 8/9 games in. (B's need that youth movement sprinkled in w vets).
Got good teammate-mentors, coaches & support.
He stays, because you don't want to trade away too early for the shiny UFA trinkets...

I completely agree with you. I wouldn’t trade him for a pending FA. I’m just saying that his play is that of a young player displaying some very interesting skill sets but also a degree of frustrating rawness. He’s played well for a kid in his situation. My anticipation is he will be sent down to Providence to play, but will come up at every instance there is an injury.

For the record, I think he’s going to be a very good player for the Bruins as he grows into the position. Don Sweeney’s recent history of using 2nd and 3rd round picks on athletes who are a step behind the traditional development methods. Lohrei looks like a high first round pick defenseman. I think Chris Pelosi is next.
