Hawks pass. He means more to us than (2) 2nds. We've got A LOT of 2nds.

Of the 211 defenseman to play 500 even strength minutes last season Murphy was 202 in corsi, 196 in fenwick, 191xGF, 197 points per 60, 181 shot attempts per 60
He’s worse this year.

He's carrying Korchinski right now. Obviously media loves to hype the rookie and KK does have good instincts and good offensive ability, but he's only allowed to do that because his veteran defense 1st partner covers for him. It takes time to develop and Murphy has been great for KK.

This narrative is a bit tired. Yes the guy with 65% d zone starts on an AHL caliber roster wasnt good at the stat that counts shots for/against. Yet he was still top 20 in hits and blocks among dmen. Turns out coaches and teammates value a guy that can bring that.

No hawks fan argue hes a top pair guy, but he is a good #3-5 guy and on the decent hawks teams 2018-2020 his even strength CF is 50.5%

Honestly, with the right partner I think Murphy could hold his own in a top pairing stay at home role. What makes a defensive dman worthy of the top 4 is the amount of minutes they can play while still being effective. There are very good dmen that just start to get too sloppy if they play over 15 or 16 minutes, and that is the only reason they aren't in a larger role. Murphy is still an effective defense first guy playing just under 20 minutes a night. On a contending team I think he could be a very good first or second pairing defenseman. In a sheltered (lower minutes) role, he would probably be the best third pairing defensive dman in the league. Although, some guys are ineffective playing less minutes because they need to keep moving to stay sharp. So, less minutes could effect him negatively, too.

I don't think so. His value is at an all time low and he still has multiple years left at 4 million. Obviously a 1st is preferrable but if a team is willing to offer multiple high seconds for him you absolutely take that.

I agree, especially with one of those 2nds being Columbus’s pick, that could fall in the # 35 range.

I guess I simply disagree, which is OK! Murphy helps Korchinski's development. Korchinski makes a lot of rookie mistakes and it's not just Murphy's physical presence that help protect KK, but it's also his defense 1st mentality which allows KK the leash to explore his offensive abilities knowing that Murphy will be back there to help clean up. I'm not against having (5) 2nd rounds picks in the 2024 draft...I'm just not willing to give up pieces that help our long term objectives which is Korchinski and his proper development...which to me means Murphy in the short term. We can acquire 2nd round picks in different ways. TRad, Perry, Mrazek...who knows, but it doesn't have to be Murphy. Besides, who else will play RD for the Hawks if Murphy gets traded? Zaitsev? That's a train wreck.

Newgod77 is a troll that gets off trashing the Hawks, don’t bother trying to use logic on him.

haha. Yeah. I was gonna say something along those lines. But decided I wouldn't even give him that satisfaction.

This would be nice... if it were true. Korchinski-Murphy has been one of the worst pairs in the entire league this season according to multiple analytics groups, and even just by the eye test Korchinski-Jones has performed a lot better this season. Murphy is just cooked. I doubt anyone picks up that contract so he's likely here anyways, but if a team is offering good, top assets for him I think you have to jump on that. As for who would play together, I think the lines would look something like:
Korchinski - Jones
Vlasic - Zaitsev
Kaiser - Phillips
Tinordi
Alternatively, you could also call up Nolan Allan to finish the season, he plays RD in Rockford
