I think Barzal is equally as overpaid as Laine. Everyone is living off his rookie year and he's never come close to being that player again.

Laine has been close to a ppg player for a couple years in Columbus, he’s just had some bad luck with injuries. He still has one of the top-5 shots in the game and is capable of scoring 40-50 goals.

I believe in Barzal too. In fairness, he hasn’t had great wing support. I think playing with Gaudreau could really help him find his rhythm.

This could be a good fresh start for both guys.

Bad luck? Laine hasn't played 70+ games since the 2018/2019 season.

Barzal is a good player. That's it though. He's a good player making $9M.

Barzal is such a "what could've been" but he ended up spending his career on the worst possible team for the style of player he is.

It's funny how people try to make these stats about Laine's games played totals seem like a way longer standing issue than they have been. Only 82 players had 70+ games in 19-20 and nobody played 70+ games in 20-21. It's really only the last 2 seasons where he has missed a significant number of games and a large number of those are attributable still to contracting covid multiple times and his father passing away.
