If the Caps are out of the Playoffs at the deadline

Created by: Logicalicesports
Team: 2023-24 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 29, 2023
Published: Nov. 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2024-2025 Lines:

OVI-STROME-LEONARD
DUBE-MCMICHAEL-WILSON
MIRO/CRISTALL/PERSSON-LAPIERRE-PROTAS
MALENSYTN-MCLEOD-PROTAS

FEHERVARY-BOUCHARD
SANDIN-CARLSON
ALEXEYEV-TVR

VLADAR-LINDGREN

NOTES: The Caps have three young studs on left wing that have a shot at making it next year, Miro and Cristall both could make the team although I think Cristall will need a year in the AHL to work on his skating. Miro seems to be the lock there. The Other young Stud Left winger can also play Center and that is Ludwig Persson. He is ripping it up in Mestis right now. He could potentially find his way to a roster spot this coming season.

Another point would be Dowd gets traded in the offseason to a contender and Lapierre/Persson/McLeod are able to fight for the 3rd and 4th center positions.

If you aren't making the playoffs and have that cap space, no need to include Mantha just let him walk?

I figured Habs fans would be interested in bringing him back to Montreal

If this is at the trade deadline. The only reason the Habs take Mantha would be to instantly flip him. And I don't see them "buying" him at the expense of Ylonen.

On a side note. Did I miss some sort of rumor regarding Ylonen? I've seen a lot more posts from other fan bases (not Habs fans) trading for him. Odd coincidence or was there a report saying he's on the block?

So you just saw the Beauvillier's trade and you immediatly thought: "You know what? I bet we can get a 35th overall young NHLer for Mantha!"

Ylonen is already better than Mantha, who's a useless UFA on top of it.

Nope. We're at the stage where we need to start moving some older players and giving our youth trials in larger roles. We need long term solutions coming in to replace players who are not projected to be future contributors.
Mantha isn't ancient, but he doesn't fit.
If we have cap space to spare after free agency, we'll be looking at taking cap from other teams again or we'll save it to move Price out of LTIR.

Nope, honestly I just randomly threw him in as a young middle six winger.

No way Edmonton makes that trade. They have no use for Kuznetsov as he's a defensive liability and wouldn't play center in their top 6. Also loosing Bouchard would be horrible for them.

I do think they would love to add Jensen though if they can fit him in. Kuemper is unrealistic and hasn't played great either, they would probably prefer to trade for Lindgren instead and just buy out Campbell themselves next summer

My View for the top 6 would be:

      Dari-McDavid-Hyman
      Nuge-Kuzy-Kane

Drai, McDavid and Nuge are all strictly better centers than Kuzy. Plus Kuzy has another year attached and they are cap strapped. Not to mention they would end up with a top 6 where your only somewhat defensive players are Hyman and Kane, and Kane is usually the one taking penalties. I think they would have more interest in renting Mantha than Kuzy, at least he's reliable defensively. Edmonton's #1 issue is stopping chances against

I'm sorry...but why are we trading a 1st round pick for a third liner and a backup goalie that makes too much money??
