That's good, because I don't really want them to be included in a trade to the Flames either. Just a 2nd would do.

Timmins is what 25? He's in borderline bust tweener territory.

Niemela still hasn't shown anything in the AHL, and he is taking time to adjust to the north american ice it seems.

Not sure about that Nashville deal and I wouldn’t include timmins in the other there’s plenty of value in there without him and I’m not sure niemela is getting moved but who knows I would do it

Domi has been better at C than he has on the wing, not sure why you're making a trade to change that. Glass 2.5M cap hit is likely to be a burden next year as well, not much sense in trading Robertson for him.

Timmins struggles with injuries, if he can stay healthy, he could possibly start to live up to his potential. When you see him play in the NHL, he definitely doesn't look like an AHLer trying to find his way. So, if he was available along with whatever futures return they want/can get that would be good. CGY is going to want to compete next year anyways so that additional year and his RFA status could come in very handy.

I'm not as certain as you are regarding competing next year. Also Timmins is/becomes waiver eligible, so if he doesn't make the roster out of camp then he would have to pass through waivers.

There's no reason why he shouldn't make it as the 7th D at the least but more than likely he's on the 2nd or 3rd pairing if they trade Tanev as well. Even if Kylington returns and Hanifin is signed, he's probably on the 3rd pair. If he does end up getting waived and claimed, you still got the 2nd or whatever it is that they wanted as the main piece. For this year, he'll either secure himself a spot or get buried in the minors, if he secures himself a spot, but then gets outdone next year then they could try to trade him even for just pennies on the dollar or hope that he doesn't get claimed.

Competing might be too strong of a word, but I think they would want to be playoff hopefuls at the least (assuming Lindholm is gone) based on the reports that CGY is looking for guys that they can play (probably AHLers trying to make the jump/young players that need a change of scenery types) as part of the returns, and also the fact that Kadri and others (probably Huberdeau and Backlund) aren't interested in a rebuild.

Kylington is an UFA, and he is unlikely to return. I doubt the Flames are going to re-sign Hanifin, as the rumors are that he turned down $7.5M x 8yr. Which is an overpay IMO. That said, there will be other free agents the Flames will get in the off-season to play in the top 4. The Flames might also get players in the 20-22 range that can step in and play in the NHL in exchange for their UFAs. Again that's my opinion but I don't think that Timmins would be an upgrade over the likes of DeSimone, Gilbert, and Solovyov at the NHL level.

I think Hanifin was just put on pause (by the Flames) until they get a better picture on what they want to do. I don't know if he would be an upgrade over any of those guys but I'm sure he would compete. 0.50 PPG in 20 or so games last year plus his draft stock, and ability to move the puck should be enough to warrant a chance at the least.

If Kylington isn't back and Hanifin is gone, chances are they are competing for 4 spots and someone is the 7th. They definitely would be open to getting guys in the 20-22 range that can step into the NHL. I was thinking of slightly older guys who are 22-24 when I said young players because that's when teams are more likely to give up on guys. If it's players who are 20-22, then they would either be not very promising or the main return although for rentals I don't see anyone giving up a player like that. So, maybe Hanifin (if he goes to a team that he would sign with), which would leave you with 3 spots + 1 still.

The nashville one is interesting. Glass doesnt impress me a ton as a Nashville fan and his injury history is just as troubling as Robertson's. Id definitely consider it

It's worth considering. Ultimately, with Novak not being a guarantee to return next season, and NSH having other wing prospects equal or better than Robertson, I think NSH needs a middle six center more than they do a potential middle six winger.

Flames prospect Jeremie Poirier had 7P in 4 AHL GP this year, before he got his arm cut by a skate. He was a 3rd round pick, and is still a ways away from making the team.

I get the Leafs don't have many prospects so Niemela seems like a future NHLer, but his size and overall game so far make him a future 6th/7th D in my eyes.

My point is that I'd much rather have picks than the prospects currently in the leafs system not named Easton Cowan.
