Why would a playoff team like VAN trade a big piece of their defense with retention for only a draft pick?

A playoff team like VAN is only trading piece to upgrade not downgrade.... This makes no sense to anyone other than TOR fans.

Canucks accept IMO but only on the basis that bear signs with the Canucks, if bear doesn't then we probably would have to decline because our Rd depth is fairly weak after Hronek.

Yes, this deal for Van would be conditional on Van adding Bear.
