Could there be something here? I like Jones but he may still be eyeing up a contender while he's in his prime and Dallas in particular makes a lot of sense.

4 years vs 7 should be enough to kill this trade in the cradle.

Also Jones is already passed his prime. He could still be useful in the right situation, but at his aav and term that isn't a risk anyone should take on

If anything, from a physical perspective, Seguin is further past his prime. Both players are signed thru age 35 at basically the same AAV.

Seguin won’t waive for a rebuilding team while he is solidly rooted in Dallas.

Nope. Nothing there. Hawks don't consider this for a minute.

Jones plays huge minutes on an inexperienced Hawks blue line. He's much more of a "need" for the Hawks than Seguin could ever hope to be. His cap hit won't be an issue for at least 5 years. Who knows where the cap number is by then.

If you've been keeping up with the analytics, then you would know that since Colliton got canned Jones has been playing good hockey again. If you don't subscribe to analytics, you will see a minutes eating defenseman who runs the power play, has 11 points, and is only a -5 on the worst team in hockey. Either way you look at it, Jones is overpaid, but he's hardly the worst contract in the NHL anymore.

EDIT: I'm not saying this to be snarky or aggressive, but a lot of people have checked out on Jones after he was ass for 2 years without keeping up with the stats. He's not as bad as he was for those couple years. He's actually been pretty solid the last calendar year

Also, this was random rumor fodder at the deadline last year in the context of 1 for 1 bad contract swaps. I get it, but this is just one of those random rumors that made its way around the internet and probably shouldnt have resurfaced.

Huh, wasnt even aware of the rumor, just something I thought of the other day. It is a pretty easy connection though with Jones being from texas and dallas looking for defense.

Contrary to popular belief, Jones is a good defenseman. On a good team, he would be looked at completely differently by everyone.

But, DAL was reportedly one of the interested parties back before CHI traded for him, and he is from there. So, there could be something to a 'Jones to DAL' trade, but DAL would have to pay for him or CHI doesn't even consider it. There is no reason to move his contract other than getting assets that help CHI's rebuild.
